A tangle of bushes with burgundy-colored flowers in the froreground give way to a vast scene of the Willamette River and a walking pier, with the looming Fremont arch bridge looming off on the horizon. A sunny day but filled with poofy clouds adds lighting drama to an otherwise simple scene.
Yesterday, a glorious moment walking along the north end of the #Portland riverfront, and signs that spring has well and truly arrived. π

Welp, now blocking the CTO of Bluesky for promoting slopaganda.
Folks, if you don't want to spend all your time on a social network being coded by slopagandists and prompt junkies (via βClaude Codeβ etc.), can I highly recommend joining a *far* better social network? βΊοΈ

You seem to be very unware of the *large* volume of deeply talented programmers who fundamentally disagree with this framing.
Reports of the death of the handcoder are *greatly* exaggerated (not to mention the myraid ethical issues around LLMs in general), let me be clear.

US military reportedly used Claude in Iran strikes despite Trumpβs ban
Trump calls Anthropic a βRadical Left AI company run by people who have no idea what the real World is all aboutβ
No one wants to use AIβwe know that this is a technology in search of an actual use or a "killer app," as they used to say in Silicon Valley, that will attract users to their platform.
AI finally found their user base: fascist governments. And this time, the killer app actually kills.

In 2019 there were 36,500 people killed, 4.5 million people injured, and 23 million vehicles damaged in motor
vehicle crashes in the United States. The economic costs of these crashes totaled $340 billion, including lost
productivity, medical, legal and court costs, emergency service, insurance administration, congestion, property
damage, and workplace losses. This is equivalent to $1,035 for each of the 328 million people living in the
United States, and 1.6% of the $21.4 trillion real U.S. Gross Domestic Product in 2019. These figures
include both policeβreported & unreported crashes. When quality-of-life valuations are considered, the total
value of societal harm from motor vehicle crashes in 2019 was nearly $1.4 trillion. Lost market & household
productivity accounted for $106 billion of the $340 billion, while property damage accounted for $115 billion.
Medical expenses totaled $31 billion. Congestion caused by crashes, including travel delay, excess fuel
consumption, greenhouse gases, & criteria pollutants accounted for $36 billion. Each fatality resulted in an
average discounted lifetime cost of $1.6 million in economic costs, and $11.3 million when quality-of-life
valuations are considered. Public revenues paid for roughly 9% of all motor vehicle crash costs, costing
taxpayers $30 billion in 2019, equal to $230 in added taxes for every household in the United States. Alcohol-
involved crashes accounted for $69 billion or 20% of all economic costs. Alcohol was the cause of the
crash in roughly 82% of these cases, causing $57 billion in costs. Distracted driving crashes cost $98
billion.

They can't even escape this by moving to another state.

OK. I don't know if this is a Portland thing or a post-COVID thing or a "these days" thing but there's something lacking in cowork culture here.
I felt a more vibrant creative indie cowork space culture in bedroom communities of suburban CA mid-2010s than today in Portland. And I can't explain why.
