i think a lot of it is also a kind of purity culture that sincerely irks me. no, you don't know what a "soul" is, and even if you knew, I can assure you'd never really recognize it
I still wanna see openAI et al lose in courts and close in tatters. They are evil for much more than some piss-colored pictures, chat GPT is straight up killing people and data centers are being built without regulation (they can be made to be clean, it would just cost more)
genAI, and any tech, is bad when it hurt humans, and currently it is hurting a lot of artists, but IMO the solution is fighting for universal basic income and free basic needs and not siding with capitalism to strengthen our cage
I had Photoshop CS5 for yeeeeeeaaars for "free", if I say downloading is stealing now I'd be a complete hypocrite
I've been thinking about the "steal from artists" argument and like...Downloading isn't stealing. What corporations are stealing is human value, that should've been the focus. Siding with copyright giants should've never been an option (and Disney just showed how much they care)
I hate genAI, but I think criticism has been poisoned by both sides helping only established big artists and corpos
Some "AI" tools like depth estimation are basically complex algos with neural network help, but we can't separate them because a lot of us are ignorant about it
