I think the Gaetz nomination was a set up from the beginning. He wanted the appt so he had a reason to resign from Congress and kill the ethics report. Trump went along with it to help a supporter, knowing that the blowback would be deadly . The Bondi pick was all ready to go. She is more dangerous.
