Complete lack of character. Nobody out there willing to take responsibility or with the ego/desire to refuse to be beaten. Being too slow, predictable and incapable of crossing doesn’t help either.

Just finished Dirty Business on C4. What a corrupt cess pit we live in.

Yep. They were both perfect for it and the whole thing just worked better than the original imo.

True Grit was the first one I thought of too. I struggled to think of 4 that could even come close to this list. I mean, I prefer the Ocean”s Eleven and Thomas Crown Affair remakes, but nowhere near the same level.

* Rewatch of my favourite sports film. Might have to up the stars next time.

* Decent family/trafficking drama

* Realistic-looking but little new here corrupt cops tale

* Estate agent in deep shit then takes a ridiculous turn. 3rd act tonal shift ugh.

I agree, it was jarring. It’s been a while since I watched it, but my main recollection is that Rockwell’s character felt particularly out of place and OTT.

Finally sold that pink hair Paul Beatles one lately, I had liked it. Having said that it’s always a strange miracle when anyone buys anything

Similar here. You’re right about teenage lads and the type of reading. Took a rebellion to get us out of Pride and Prejudice.

Strange thing is that now as a miserable old fuck, I spend my time watching social realism films and would probably appreciate social realism books.

This and The Hit are right up there in my best British gangster films. They have similar vibes.

I'd have thought towards the higher end of that range. Everyone I've talked to about it has paid between 5k and 10k, but some were detached. Unless the N.E is wildly different price-wise to Yorks, Derbys.

* Decent survivor guilt tale
* So-so dive into 70s sleaze
* Father-daughter tale that hit me in the feels and worryingly relatable
* Likeable musical with too much music

No. We had social studies at 16-18 but it felt more like general knowledge, random mix of stuff.

I’d imagine you”ll need to switch a bit to fact-checking and research. Or maybe just something else that requires a brain and some comms skills.

It’s a sobering thought having to career-change past 50. I’m dreading the day I have to bite the bullet.

Pension not good enough to call it quits? Working in a min wage job not feasible?

11.02.2026 14:06 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I feel the same. Must be bleak heading g into this as a yout’.

I wish I was about 8-10 years older.I’d just retire early and be done with it all.

I know what you mean. It’s hard to think positively about it. Try to take it one day or week at a time. If push comes to shove, you’ll have to adapt … we all will 😭

Really shit. I’m trying to hold out for a couple of years so I can top my pension up, then I guess it will be minimum wage whatever I can get.

I worry about young people who take on a load of debt to train in things that might have no opportunities.
