An editorial cartoon of MLK standing in front of chaos and wreckage with the words, "I plan to lead another non-violent march tomorrow"

Posting this 1967 Birmingham News editorial cartoon for all the people who don't realize that this is how MLK was viewed by a big chunk of white America.

That is 54, 5-year NIH biomedical research grants.

Or 270 years worth of biomedical research.

Why are solar panels and batteries from China so cheap? It's more to do with automation and state-of-the art manufacturing processes than cheap labour.

BYD battery cost: $45/kwh
US made battery cost: $120/kWh
Why? Unintuitive answer here -> www.sustainabilitybynumbers.com/p/china-chea...

BREAKING: Trump is having a full-blown meltdown on Truth Socialβ€”this time over a painting of him displayed at the Colorado State Capitol. He’s lashing out at the governor, claiming the portrait is β€œdistorted.”

It’d be a real shame if everyone saw it… and shared it.

This poorly argued piece was written by a senior fellow at an oil-industry-funded "think tank," if you want to know how things are going at the Washington Post.

He’s the president’s biggest donor, he gets a west wing office, he gets to oust the administrator of the federal aviation administration, he gets to send emails to the entire federal workforce trying to scam them out of their pensions, and he’s a nazi.

What a chart...
The US share of single moms (19%) is actually pretty similar to many other advanced economy nations.

What is different? = US child poverty (20%) is way higher than other nations.

DOGE: Dangerous Oligarchs Grab Everything What Marc Andreessen revealed about the tech-industrial complex

The connection between Trump and Silicon Valley is not just social media and financial support, not just DOGE. They are holding key positions in govt that will allow them to reshape personnel and procurement policies. Who will this benefit?

A screenshot of the Die Zeit website. It is a photo of Musk in black and white doing the Hitler β€œseig heil” salute - but the actual salute is blocked out by blue material on the left hand side of the photo. The headline is underneath.

A paper that understands its responsibility, in a country that knows it when it sees it.

Impressive from Die Zeit. Refuses to show the salute, but calls it out for what it so obviously was.

Headline: β€œA Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute is a Hitler Salute”

Medicaid expansion and variability in mortality in the USA: a national, observational cohort study After 4 years of implementation, Medicaid expansion remains associated with significant reductions in all-cause mortality, but reductions are variable by state characteristics. These results could inform policy makers to provide broad-based equitable improvements in health outcomes.

In the other direction:

Among 32 expansion states and 17 non-expansion states, Medicaid expansion was associated with reductions in all-cause mortality.

Graph with blue and red bars which represent temperature departures from the reference time period (1850-1900). the first year is 1850 and the last year (which coincides with the highest value) is 2024.

2024 is almost history and the global temperature forecast for the remaining few days is rock solid now. Time to wrap up.

In most datasets, 2024 will be 0.1 degree C warmer than 2023. Also, 2024 will be the 1st individual year above the 1.5 degree Paris warming threshold in all datasets.
