A rainy night at the royal premiere of "Close Encounters of the Third Kind" at the Odeon Leicester Square on March 13, 1978, and images of the cinema's cavernous interior, inset with bendy Puck, the badge my dad bought for me, and the little boy whose mind was blown in this exact same theatre a couple of weeks later.

Not even “Texas Chainsaw,” the original they cite. The mangling is implied (hammers, hooks, knives, and power tools) and mostly left to the imagination. It’s still terrifying, but that surprised me on my first teenage VHS viewing. And I never ate another roadside snack again 🌭

A Roy Arbogast special! I met Mr Arbogast in Martha’s Vineyard during Jawsfest 05. A wonderful fellow, part of the shark team. I got to tell him how much I loved my favorite: the screws undoing in the kitchen floor grating during the UFO invasion in the Guiler house!
OMG, my namesake Uncle Joe owned one of these beauties. My parents to us to visit in Florida, 1980, my uncle took one look at Dad's rental and said, 'Trash. Take mine.' For three weeks we glided from Miami, to Cape Canaveral, Orlando, Tampa, Alligator Alley... like flying in a spaceship! Marvelous!
