And so many of these contest culture people are so in love with their own experiences and thoughts that they can't grapple with how wide the world actually is behind their own brains
I remember reading some study years ago about how people tended to prefer music they've heard before, even if they don't like it, vs new music, and ime it generalizes to people preferring their own thoughts and experiences and sensory streams because it's the most recognizable thing they know
