A woman behind a signing table at a convention. She's wearing a green paisley vest over a pale yellow blouse. The table tent in front of her reads LEE MARTINDALE and bears what was then the SFWA symbol.
Sorry to learn we've lost writer, editor, and past SFWA officer Lee Martindale. She was always a welcome presence, not only at cons, but in our wider community as well. I photographed her during better days at the 2008 Nebula Awards weekend in Austin, and that is how I shall choose to remember her.

Every trans suicide is murder. Do not ever fucking talk to me about "fairness in sports." Do not talk to me about Gavin Newsom. Nothing you have to say matters more than trans children living to adulthood.

I've actually got three working manual typewriters (plus one decorative one), but one is not intended to be portable, the other is technically portable, and the one that needs a ribbon is of course the most portable one.

I've got a Corona model 3 folding typewriter in perfect working condition...but I need to find a replacement ribbon that actually fits before I can actually use it.

A grey tuxedo cat nestled into a comfy spot, one paw holding down his curling tail.
Laszlo is doing so well today that I want to say I was dramatic yesterday, but I know if I start thinking that, his next downturn will be even more devastating.
I hope in a month or two I get to say I was dramatic.

Sonata has rediscovered the feline joy of pushing objects off of tables.
Laszlo is acting infuriatingly normal and also just off enough that I know I'm not wrong about what's happening, but I want badly to think I'm wrong.

If the Dems who win in the 2026 midterms get squeamish about prosecuting this administration, we'll need to elect a bunch of new people running on Nuremberg shit for 2028. This isn't a joke. It's the law. It's justice. Biden let Trump back in the WH and this happened because Joe didn't do his job

I spent all day crying over that little bastard and he greets me at the door like everything is fine.
I still don't think I have long with him, but at least today is ok.
It didn't make what I know is happening easier, but I'll take whatever good days I can get.

it's impossible to overstate how much the presence of cops escalates a situation in which someone is confused and scared. most of these people didn't pick up a weapon until police entered their home and threatened them. often family members tried to shield them. they were usually dead in under 2 min

I donβt think Trump and his people are capable of engineering βdistractions,β I think the mind-numbing chaos we see every day is straightforwardly the result of giving the dumbest, cruelest, most corrupt, most selfish people of a generation near-unmitigated power

He was doing good yesterday, but clearly worse this morning. He didn't want most of his breakfast, and I feel like a monster leaving him alone to go to work. I'm scared of what I'll find when I get home, and I'm not doing a great job holding it together in the office right now.

Pancreatitis. Chronic. Don't know if it's primary or secondary, but he hasn't gone two weeks without a trip to the vet since December. He's getting worse even on prescription food and meds, and I can't keep asking him to go through this.

A grey tuxedo cat stretched out on his side, fast asleep, one white-tipped paw curled.
The best boy, having a nice nap.
At least he defies typical cat behavior by clearly telling me when something is wrong, so I can be pretty sure that right now, he's as comfy as he looks.

After months of going in and out of the vet's and thousands of dollars, I'm pretty sure Laszlo isn't going to make it through this.
I feel bad saying this while he's napping and apparently feeling fine, but I don't know how long that fine part is going to last and I hate it so, so much.

To be fair to the rest of the show, following up Martindale's performance is a lot to ask.
To be honest about a show I (mostly) really liked, they didn't try that hard.

After finding out a little about where they planned to go with the show, I've thought for years that the best thing that happened to it was only getting one season and a movie.
It's ok to let things go. (Especially when the showrunner and a cast member are awful.)
