The thing about the Dunning-Krueger effect is that it applies almost exclusively to mediocre cis white guys π

The REAL March Madness is that Father Shanley at St. Johnβs University is withdrawing recognition of faculty unions. SJU AAUP and allies are here at Madison Square Garden today to say NO to this disgusting union busting!

You can't just end fifty years of collective bargaining with an email! #handsoffsjufaculty
Our union is real, and we won't back down! Solidarity forever!

After months of work, a project i've been coordinating for @literaryhub.bsky.social in conjunction with @maris.bsky.social is now live ...
We've commissioned 13 reviews of books by LGBTQ folks not covered by the NYTBR under Pamela Paul ...

Seriously though, I randomly got my period back (for only one month) after 2 years on T, and it threw me into such a spiral I felt like I was gonna die :(
One of my favorite episodes!
Transhumanism has always been crank shit masquerading as respectable and speculative but itβs also just less interesting than asking βwhat if Iβm actually a girl?β
Doubleplusgood! π
This post is from a few months ago and rings more true every day
i bet this shit sounds magical if you're fucking stupid
This interview with the great @rebeccasolnit.bsky.social was a "wow" moment for me. Thanks, New York Times and David Marchese.

I couldn't help noticing the question that seemed the most Times-like to me.
βHeyβ came before βhi,β and βhi' came before βhello.β
βHiβ is most likely a variant of βhey.β
βHelloβ is not related to either.
Goodbye.
Today makes 15 years since the day I was let out of the mental health clinic my mom put me in for being trans.
Every time I see new laws meant to stop trans kids, I think back to that time and how the experience didnβt make me cisgender. It just made me hate myself until I could finally be me
It's looking increasingly like these guys thought that if they could wreak more death and destruction than the other side then they would be respected as strong powerful men and they would "win" and that would make them big important heroes. Very possibly they had no rationale deeper than that.
Increasingly of the opinion that the correct answer to the Trolley Problem is "fuck you, why are you so fixated on finding reasons to justify killing people?"
Unpopular opinion: I legitimately despise the "Lindsey Graham is a self hating closeted gay/trans person" takes.
It blames an already marginalized group for the actions of a cishet white man with enormous privilege and plays into a right wing narrative of queer people being violent.
When we talk about genocides in the U.S., there are the many genocides of tribal nations that have been ongoing for centuries. There is also the genocide of Black people, the conditions of which have never gone away. This can be useful historical context for things happening now.
i would apologize for getting drunk and yelling about the bullshit trans people have to live with on their shoulders and pretend nothing is wrong at the witching hour every few days or so but like
i'm a trans person who has to live with this insane bullshit like
[Hitting the board that reads "Death of the Author was meant to be a tool of literary criticism, NOT an excuse to give your bucks to a shitty person" with my finger until it breaks]
if you have a salary job making 70k or more a year then make friends with a couple of trans people online who are busting their asses to barely eat and send them 10 or so dollars here there please please please together we can make difference
I am a man, entirely raised by strong women.
I am a feminist, and love breaking stereotypes--including those encoded by going through the wrong puberty
Believe it or Not (heh)
Also, Sigourney Weaver kicked absolute ASS in 'Alien'-AND- saved the cat, what a queen, & the annoying cis men got wrekd
The guy who voices Master Chief from the video game "Halo," who was featured in a White House meme video showing missiles blowing people up in Iran, calls it "disgusting and juvenile war porn" wapo.st/3NhffGm
I know people are very sensitive about the use of the word βgenocideβ but the attempts to medically eliminate trans children is very clearly meets the standard because they are trying to eliminate a population and also they know some of those kids are going to kill themselves
2) Our existence is a threat to some key societal hierarchies. Our organizing is as well.
A strict, patriarchal gender binary is key to the gentry's grip on power. Even trans people just wanting to live our lives is a threat to that (incredibly evil) social order, because it reveals it for a lie...
I really, really don't like "oh trans people are just a tiny powerless population with no impact on anything, all these laws are just a distraction" tack and believe it's detrimental to the fight for our liberation, for several reasons.
So...π§΅

A friend tells me a 2-bedroom apartment they looked at in Cambridge, MA is 6800/month. Iβm sure to move would also require first, last, and security ($20,400). That doesnβt cover moving costs.
Who is affording this? Who can afford this?
Diaper pantries and food banks are running on fumes these days. Signing up for a recurring gift of $25/month can make a genuine, substantial difference on the ground.
