Sure get your cheap laughs but they’ve never seen it do that before and they’re scared

To my understanding the etymology of “hello” is *dumb noises people make while awkwardly answering the telephone* which means it has no truer ancestor than the first dumb noise someone made while answering the telephone

Which is “ahoy-hoy”

So many bonus points if the leaf is actually totally unnecessary motion capture performed by Alan Tudyk.

Nathan Fillion’s next Firefly cast notice video should just be him chasing a leaf down the street.

I pulled the lever on the trolley and it just took me to the fucking grocery store. Why is it that whenever you do it someone dies?

And no matter what you try: if you fail, what you create is worse. Worse for Americans, worse for Iranian, worse for Israelis, worse for Saudis, worse for everyone (tbh I actually think only Iranians deserve my concern in this math, but at the end of the day…

Truth is, if you want the Iranian regime dismantled and replaced, then it doesn’t even take the village idiot to tell you that means 30 years of painful, involved American occupation to maybe MAYBE make it happen. And it’s a crapshoot as to whether or not you get what you’re looking for.

Neither do the Kurds, who know this. Their most likely action is to try hold a Kurdistan in the northwest (which means Turkey will likely invade so they can dismantle the Kurdistan again.)

And the IDF can play horribly unscrupulous assassin all it likes. It doesn’t have the bootprint to become the police force necessary to prop up an even wastingly weak Iranian regime.

Iran has such huge promise in terms of democracy and being a constructive member of the global community.

The people who will forward that goal likely can’t contend with patchworks of fundamentalist warlord that the equation sort of predetermines.

The cost to holding the ground sinks to what they will pay, and if they can’t pay it, the Taliban is right next store an would happily pay for a share of the entity while the rest of the space is occupied by who?

11.03.2026 04:53 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0

A coworker of mine said “the IDF will dismantle it” and no they fucking won’t. If no one on the ground except for the Iranian regime is willing to pay the cost to hold ground, no one else will.

3) if you want to replace a long-lived oppressive system that has methodically destroyed other organizing principles, you’re setting up a weak government and probably have to commit to being its municipal police force for the foreseeable future.

2) if you think you pulled an alternative situation out of your ass in such a scenario, no you didn’t.

1) if you destroy a system that’s stood for decades without another organic system to assert itself, no you didn’t

There was a spell where I didn’t really see a path forward and thought about joining the navy as part of my road to becoming an engineer and was terrified someone might throw my name in the submariner pile

Gotta say, I do think we should probably make extra careful that the people we seal in tubes for six weeks without sunlight don’t get *too* bitter.

Of all the shit that can go wrong, I choose to approach our incarcerations as a matter of policy rather than what an individual would prefer. The politics of the personal has almost certainly led us to execute more innocent people than either you or I can bear to contemplate

I also think it’s very important for both the victim and the accused party that the victim not share and part in the role of executioner. The state shouldn’t be doing this in the first place but the victim shouldn’t be asked or allowed to move the people’s hand to kill, even over a killing.

10.03.2026 06:22 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 2 📌 0

Idk but fun fact, in our system the determinations of the victims aren’t exactly determinative. I don’t not think it’s particularly operative in the question of whether or not we as a society decide to kill.
