Comfortable in a research lab or mountain monastery, Corey's passion is working in the intersection of scientific and contemplative traditions. These days he works as a meditation teacher, stress management coach and researcher in mental health.

Teaching and grading over, looking for some real-world impact from my PhD.
It's an award-winning thesis, but... who's going to read it?
So I started with a simple guide - distilling my years of Buddhist study and research background to put #mindfulness in context.

A Tesla executive is leading Australia’s R&D review. That’s not OK. Public roles should serve the people – not billionaires. Add your name to demand Denholm’s resignation and new integrity laws: getup.to/xd9rydfKKVS4...
Thanks David - in a venn diagram of Buddhist practice and music, there's a lot to be learned in the overlap and in the differences.
To me it's about doing what you find most interesting and looking around to see if it can help anyone else.
Ever tried to explain your “non-linear career path”? Mine goes jazz musician → Tibetan-English translator → meditation teacher → researcher.
To me, it's very linear and all makes sense when you put Buddhism and psychology side by side.
Here’s what I found 👇

With PhD all conferred (no revisions - hooray), we're getting some of the work published. This is an exploratory study into mechanisms of #mindfulness - what's behind all the hype, and where shall we go with it?

The monk in the picture is Tenzin Ignyen, and this was the busiest and noisiest conversation we've ever had.
Tenzin lived many years in a small hut in the forest. Just high enough to stand up straight, with a hingeless metal door kept bears and leopards out,

Been talking about the how/why combining Buddhist and psychological approaches could be so powerful....

I was awarded a PhD a couple of weeks ago (hooray).
Many times along the way, people asked what it's about, and my answers varied wildly and almost always edited out any deeper motivation...

"When was the last time you said 'thank you,' Mr. Penguin?"
Meditators haven't just been sitting around throughout the centuries. They've made discoveries, tested theories and reported back.
A little exploration of the people and ideas putting some more "contemplative" in contemplative science and where it might lead...

Had the same thought for here in Australia. We're about to have an election that might see research funding cut to as the inmates make a push to take over the asylum, though.
Worst kept secret in Springfield... where have I heard that before?

Two Tibetan monks sat down at a table near me at a rooftop cafe in Bodh Gaya.
I'd finished my coffee, but two hours later I was still there talking Buddhism, science, philosophy of mind, happiness and the wisdom of black coffee...

Does feel like we very narrowly dodged a bullet. Those of south of traditional cyclone-prone areas might also need to be more prepared, like those living up north.
Can't think of any other country that could pull this off - year after year!
It's been made into a series on Apple TV. Of course, books are always better, but the series is a brilliant piece of storytelling.
What does the (almost) failed attempt to put up a small shed have to do with the experiential-academic tension we see in contemplative traditions? Thesis submitted, with time on my hands, I came up with some ideas...

I'm not stumbling across many inspiring stories atm. I know they're out there, so I'm going to post this.... A pleasant surprise I found in my inbox this morning. I especially love all the social projects, which isn't always a strength of Buddhist organisations.

Why meditate? How to do it? What should I look for to know if it's helping? There's lots of questions to ask when considering meditation, and many answers can be found in the intersection of modern science and ancient Buddhist approaches...
