I would like to re-learn euchre (haven't played it in 40 years) simply because TWB hosts regular euchre nights and I would like to have a reason to go sit in a pub and play games.

If I want to go anywhere in the car on waste pickup day, I'll have to move the carts back up the driveway in front of the front porch, move the car to the street, move the bins back to the end of the driveway. And do the reverse when I come home.
I'm in the suburbs in a townhouse but have a shared short driveway and a small garage that barely fits a small sedan. I will also have to back the car out to get the bins out. There's no front yard to speak of so nowhere to put the bins except block the end of the driveway.
Went there a ton of times and was the designated driver. Had a blast - got to dress up and go dancing. (It's hard to imagine now that I used to do that!) Even if there wasn't somebody I really wanted to see, just went for the roadhouse band and whoever else happened to be playing that night.
Except I've seen them at busy pedestrian areas near plazas. If I don't get there in time, I just cross with the bike crossing symbol. It's good that they have the automatic symbol for bikes, but what about people walking or rolling? And then there's the countdown timer starting at 5 seconds. WTF?
meant to add "like I'm a real human being, just like people in cars"
Or to push a beg button so I don't have to wait another few minutes for a full light cycle to cross a street like.
It enrages me that governments redirect taxpayer dollars - money that we pay for services & to support our society - and give it to companies so they can give it to CEOs and shareholders. Why isn't that called embezzlement or misappropriation when a politician does it? We didn't approve it.
*if they do that
I do that then they can start allowing bike storage sheds in front yards. There will be 2m more space - plenty of room. Then people can buy cargo bikes or e-trikes and have safe places to store them. Or better yet, keep the driveways shorter and still allow bike sheds so fewer cars are needed.
I just started using the Feeds instead of the default home page. Much cleaner and I only see my friends, pages, and groups I follow.
And maybe another couple of weeks in a snowy winter using only a bus and a wheelchair. I don't know how many snow piles blocking crosswalks I've tried to kick away with my boots.
Nothing will change until we require that all elected officials & every municipal employee who makes any decisions about transportation of any kind spend a year (or a minimum 1 month every season) without using an automobile. No car, taxi, ride share, etc. Only bus, walking, cycling, rolling.
Yes, I've got a NAS but without RAID, but I have multiple backups instead. I have backups every 30 minutes for my working files to Sync, weekly backups to my NAS & an external drive on my desk. It's just email that's the sticking point now.
It is on my to-do list to deGoogle my business as much as possible.
I installed LibreOffice a while ago & am currently recreating all my spreadsheets that I originally created in Mac Numbers then recreated in Google when I got a Windows computer. I already have a domain name for my business so can add other email accounts on that for personal & not use GMail anymore
Does this also apply to individuals and not just countries? I've been using Google Workspace for a few years and am trying to figure out how to get rid of it. I use Sync for backup and file sharing, but trying to decide between my ISP (Canspace) or Northmail or Nili for email.
"Given the low costs relative to its transportation peers, itβs not clear to me why Bike Share should need to focus on revenue generation and break-even operations when other forms of mobility are treated like public services worthy of continued public investment." -Matt Elliott

Did you know: For every $1 you donate to the Ontario NDP, you can up to 75 cents of it back during tax time, as early as February.

Loved when Dave Thomas called in to Michael Buble's radio show last week and they sang a bit of that song together live on the air. Wonder if I still have that album around.
Waterloo Regionβs finest citizen journalist has all the details from the very very sketchy vote at council that resulted in $173 million being earmarked for a new police comms centre. Read down this thread for the shenanigans.
"By approving a $20 million budget increase for the police, we are effectively choosing not to invest that money in upstream diversion programs that address the root causes of police workload."
Slide from Brent Toderian at @toderianUW.bsky.social that says βIf you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers. If you design a multi-model city, it works better for everyone, including drivers.β
Never forget, if you design a city for cars, it fails for everyone, including drivers.
If you design a multi-modal city that makes walking, biking & public transit attractive options, it works better for everyone, including drivers.
INCLUDING DRIVERS.
The βwar on carsβ has always been a lie.
*bus stops
It boggles my mind that we can't have the small sidewalk plows follow behind the large city plows and clear the intersections and crosswalks. The cities and region are oblivious to the concerns of the majority of people who don't drive. That includes people of all ages who don't commute.
One pass for crescents and cul-de-sacs to get rid of most of the snow, and throw the savings from the road-clearing budget towards sidewalks, but stops, intersections, etc. Those should be done first anyway, but they're not being done at all now. Even on-road bike lanes aren't cleared.
I know, it frustrates me to no end. For 25 years I lived on a bus route and enjoyed the fact it was cleared first. This year I live on a cul-de-sac. There is absolutely no reason the plow needed to come by twice today. There was hardly any snow on the road after the first pass much earlier.
Yesterday I passed a few bus stops that had huge piles of snow from the city plows in front. When I used to commute every day by bus I would need to wear snow pants so I could crawl over the snow bank to get to the bus. I'm sure there will be an accessibility lawsuit against the cities and region.
One of the busiest routes in town, completely impassable for me to walk 5 mins to the hardware store.
Local leadership ignores the poor. They ignore children. They ignore the disabled. This is not radical - it is the default policy of council.
