Glories are amazing. I've seen a few while flying. The super cool part is how it's centered on *you*, so in vids like this you can even tell where the person is on the plane!

"Whatever you now find weird, ugly, uncomfortable and nasty about a new medium will surely become its signature. CD distortion, the jitteriness of digital video, the crap sound of 8-bit – all these will be cherished and emulated as soon as they can be avoided. It’s the sound of failure: so much of modern art is the sound of things going out of control, of a medium pushing to its limits and breaking apart. The distorted guitar is the sound of something too loud for the medium supposed to carry it. The blues singer with the cracked voice is the sound of an emotional cry too powerful for the throat that releases it. The excitement of grainy film, of bleached-out black and white, is the excitement of witnessing events too momentous for the medium assigned to record them. Note to the artist: when the medium fails conspicuously, and especially if it fails in new ways, the listener believes something is happening beyond its limits."

how else can you describe the rehearsal other than just “pure art”

The problem with most machine-based random number generators is that they’re not TRULY random, so if you need genuine randomness it is sometimes necessary to link your code to an external random process like a physical noise source or the current rate of US tariffs on a given country.
Bedroom at Arles now (left) and when it was painted. The delicate purples on walls and even brown wooden floor have changed
Did you know a lot of 19th c paintings don't look anymore as their makers intended? They used a lot of light fugitive colors such as lake colors (reds, pink) that are beautiful when fresh but quickly fade. Cf Van Gogh. Once the color is gone you can only do digital reconstruction
Great, thanks for answering
Quick proteomics question: is it possible to perform an open search on DIA data?
A funeral invitation from April, 1688. It has an ornate black border with various memento mori iconography around it - like skeletons, winged hourglasses, and scythes.
Funeral Invitation, 1688.
Funeral invitations first appeared in the 17th century, and acted as an admission ticket to both the church and the funeral feast. Pallbearers were often assigned a number on the ticket to signify their position in carrying the coffin.
my brain anytime I’m not thinking about work:

the five love languages are cats, cakes, a stately manor home in the English countryside, teaming up to catch the murderer and putting down my book so I can talk to you.
I still remember the feeling of peace I felt when I made it happen. Even if I never achieved my dreams of being a research scientist, I had been able to contribute, in however tiny a way, to a community stretching over countless generations and striving toward a common and profoundly meaningful aim.
When I was in graduate school, nothing in the world felt more important to me than publishing a paper in the scientific literature. It was not about getting a job or competing with my peers. It was about being part of something vastly larger than myself and profoundly meaningful human history.
