QR codes, eh? Just been to Orkney, which has moderately ok buses (except Friday only when no R in the month kind of timetabling) but *!no bus stops!*, except at 2 interchanges. You have to use an app to know when expected and when actual, but it is real time. But buses do stop anywhere on demand.

Seems like there might be a huge opportunity to move this research to UK or Europe, as they seem determined to shoot themselves in the foot.

Why does it need police or public at all? The authorities know who hasnβt paid from those databases they could just automatically fine people or proactively prosecute if the vehicle isnβt notified as off road or if it is and is picked up on a camera.

OpenStreetMap
OpenStreetMap is a map of the world, created by people like you and free to use under an open license.
Thereβs a similar gap in NCN 11 between Cambridge and Ely, where a landowner has blocked the way for years, despite the route already being a public footpath. @emilykerr36.bsky.social https://www.openstreetmap.org/?mlat=52.26703&mlon=0.21612#map=14/52.26703/0.21612&layers=P

Absolutely agree with your sentiment. A bit troubled though that βdriving offences tooβ can be read as implying that driving offences are somehow less serious than other offences not involving a car.

Another email possibility is mythic-beasts.com , a local Cambridge co, excellent for hosting anything. This is only really economical if you donβt have that much email, only a 2GB allowance, whichever gets much more expensive with more space. Used with Spark, is a very effective email solution.

Oh, and for reading email, whoever hosts it, I use Spark (made in Ukraine) https://sparkmailapp.com

Use Brave or Duck Duck Go browser, not Chrome (which is Google of course). Brave is still Chromium, open source basis of Chrome, but without the Google fishhooks in it.

Quite. Iβve largely de-googled over the last 2 years. Thereβs lots of things that are still US to part US projects, but open source, so less vulnerable. Eg LibreOffice instead of MS. Raspberry Pu 5 is a very decent desktop computer now, not running Windows.

Proton may be your best bet. Itβs also possible to self host a lot of stuff, but depends on tech knowledge.

When I lived in Salt Lake City, you could ask for a free transfer valid for an hour. (Because it was a grid pattern, and most buses tended to run either N-S or E-W, so many journeys needed a change)

Recent change to Citi1 means Fulbourn to city now timetabled for more than 1 hour (to go 5 miles). Cos 17 minute wait at Tesco. Much quicker to change onto 3 there or even the previous 1, but thatβs two ticketsβ¦

Bras de Gitanes, βGipsyβs Armsβ, a glorified Swiss roll.
βBras de Gitanesβ - amazingly, it even looks like the Hairy Bikers recipe picture. The quantity actually made two, sliced horizontally, and I made them gluten free. www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes...

University of Cambridge Map
End of an era today for me, as the Cambridge University map, which I worked on since 2011, moves to a new system operated by their Estates dept map.cam.ac.uk . Still driven by OpenStreetMap data underneath.
