i also fear that some end up becoming so influential that they are taken into an industrialized schematic of success, and spawning countless works that are trying to capture the same lightning in a bottle, which makes me weep for the death of creativity and works that didn't see the light of day--

i also deeply resent the monolithic anchors that they become in the cultural zeitgeist, anchoring pretty much any work thats remotely adjacent or derivative, colonizing creative identity and said creative landmark becoming the de facto owners of icons that were themselves derivative to begin with

i tend to have a love/hate relationship with anything that becomes genra defining. i don't outright dislike a franchise for it success or enduring legacy, i deeply respect em for standing the test of time and cultivating a loving fanbase, capturing people's imagination beyond the initial hype

the thing that vexes me with isekai is that there are no stakes. its a constant stream of deus ex or worse, power scaling that completely trims any form of buildup.

not only its formulaic to the point it feels like writers are afraid to miss whatever makes it work, it challenging to get invested
