The Galloway Hoard was discovered by detectorist Derek McLennan at Balmaghie, Kirkcudbrightshire, #OTD in 2014. Deposited around AD 900, it is both Scotland’s earliest Viking-Age hoard and the richest ever found in Britain and Ireland. 📸National Museums Scotland #medievalsky

It's a place called Oceanstone Resort & Hydrothermal spa right on the Atlantic in a place called Indian Harbour, Nova Scotia - not far from Halifax.

That's probably my favourite tree on property, it lost its head a couple of years ago.

I was slightly apprehensive to share because it's a fairly violent image. But what I got out of it, and what moved me pretty deeply as a #Tolkien fan is the defiance; the resigned and delayed hope.
