There’s a there there now, something meaningfully changed recently. Not every codebase or tool chain or problem or practitioner gets equal value, but value is there.

Maybe when anthropic starts charging real rates for inference it’ll all come crashing down. 🤷🏼

I’ve been using things since copilot closed beta, and have been circumspect the whole time. I’m uneasy about our lack of tools and processes to safely and thoughtfully handle all the new robot code. I don’t get 10x value on every project, sometimes it’s net-negative. Overall I’m faster than without.

I’m personally also seeing a ton of innovation in harnesses and other dev tooling, so some of it is may be future-not-evenly-distributed problem?

In the small teams I’m on, much more is getting done now than 6 months ago. Some of it is stuff that wouldn’t have been done at all before, like esoteric exceptions. Some is net new feature work. Some is smoothing out customer support and related stuff (e.g, better importing for new customers)

It’s also only with CC and opus 4.5 that it crossed a threshold of good-enough-for-enough-people, and that was like 3 or 4 months ago?

I think it might just be early, and the hype far oversells the results. In my experience there’s a distribution of value, from like -1x to maybe 4x, depending on the task, practitioner, and codebase.

Deep in conversation, Trump peered over the Resolute Desk at their feet, Vance recalled during an event later that day celebrating Kennedy Center honoree Sylvester Stallone. "Marco, JD, you guys have s-y shoes," Trump declared before retrieving a catalog. A third politician was in the room-Vance didn't name him-and Trump asked each person for their size. Rubio said 11.5, Vance 13. The third man said 7, according to Vance.

"The president kind of leans back in his chair and says, 'You know you can tell a lot about a man by his shoe size,' " Vance said.

How would you know? Are you looking for it? I’m not trying to be antagonistic here, I’m really interested in your heuristics.

Heard it downtown too, though it sounded like multiple cycles. Is the missile thing really a thing? I had no idea it was more than tornadoes!

love how we killed the old, frail anti-nuke ayatollah just to have him replaced with his young, healthy son who wants nukes and who just had his father, mother, wife, and child murdered on the same day by his mortal enemy. surely this will bring peace to the region

The limited efficacy of air power alone has been known since the Battle of Britain in WW2. This is why combined arms is the standard for every nation-state military since.

The savings we're getting here by annihilating decades of American science will pay for whole minutes of the operation to create decades of death, immiseration, and chaos in Iran.

Those three downed jets run around $90 million each.

It cost $20 million a year to operate the food kitchens serving 816,000 people in Sudan.

Press gave Biden far worse coverage for a small number of American soldiers dying while leaving a war than to Trump for a similar number dying while starting a war for no reason. It makes you think!

the war is unpopular but it's also illegal but it also doesn't serve any purpose but it also undermines diplomacy but it also is set to produce the opposite outcome as intended but it also already has hundreds dead and threatens more but it also will not make anything better for anyone but it also

I think if I'd gotten away with attempting a coup, suffered no consequences for it, then won an election four years later, got away with executing citizens in the streets and foreigners in boats, and successfully abducted a head of state, I too might think I could just bomb my way to regime change
