What's more dangerous though, outside of the wasted resource, engineers are becoming dumber. Well soon reach an era where low performers are able to "expedite" themselves to a new definition of "senior" just because they can prompt. But their knowledge and understanding of the system will be absent
A lot of great points in this thread. AI has value but we're going down a dark path. I've literally watched collgues spend time writing out a spec for an agent to do a task. It took 3x longer to write the spec, than what it would have taken the engineer to just do the task.
It fits the criteria of shoving AI anywhere humanly possible. Forcing engineers to become enablers
You've hit the nail on the head there. Agents are giving the "low performers" a more level platform. And that's a very dangerous direction we are going
Did the same last year. Been rocking a 9a since it came out and haven't looked back. I can't bring myself to spend so much money on a top tier phone anymore
It certainly has value, can't question that and I make use of AI where it benefits me! But it's just a trend now and it's shoved into places that it really doesn't need to be!
Please, for the love of god, stop shoving AI assistants in my face. Are we really at a point where there's an AI assistant in every single app? It's exhausting ๐ซ
Funny, I actually expected the same. Can't explain why, but PM being on the left feels wrong to me ๐ซฃ
A/B test it and see which one converts more. Use real data to drive the decision ;)
Yeah it gets worse ๐
I'm starting the roll out tonight slowly at 1% to start, and keeping the work as a separate feature branch incase I need to quickly revert back! Fingers crossed I have a smooth weekend and can start to ship _much_ faster only needing to write UI once ๐
I've been rewriting 1 of my apps from KMP with SwiftUI and Jetpack #Compose to go all-in with #ComposeMultiplatform. I originally launched in 2023 with CMP but had major crashes on iOS that made me to immediately switch to SwiftUI (25% crash rate at the time). 2 years on, CMP look more stable ๐ค๐ป
Navigation3 is really a turning point for the whole Architecture Components team as we look to work closely with the Compose team and think more holistically about what it takes to build an Android app.
So if you're an ~L4 engineer who wants to help, I'm hiring!

Jetpack Navigation 3 is stable! ๐๐๐
Leaning into Jetpack Compose and the idea of combining smaller building blocks together really helped make Nav3 a much more flexible library that made it a joy to work on and hopefully for you to use as well!

Data isnโt static โ it flows.
At KotlinConf25, @dianamontalion.com explained core design principles for resilient, maintainable systems, where data and knowledge are constantly in motion.

I'm literally obsessed with this app! Can't stop playing it! Would love to see it grow with larger grids, maybe a history of scores or even a time based leaderboard? Can't wait to see where you take it!

Warps great! Been using it for a couple years and love it. Can't seem to go back to anything else
This.
We already had incremental compilation in the single-digit seconds range, but Iโm still blown away by how much faster it is now that the entire codebase is fully on Metro. ๐คฏ

Casey Muratori pretty much sums up how I feel about LLMs for coding:
"The AI will always be useless for me. I physically can't get what I want from programming when AI is involved, because what it is doing is robbing me of the experience that I wanted to have and the knowledge that I wanted to get"
It really is! It's been such a great show, no filler. Loving every bit so far!
Ruin a song by adding the word "literally" to the title.
Literally all the small things
This! ๐ฏ
Agree with all these! ๐๐ป I've found since moving here and only using the Following feed, I'm caught up in a few minutes and I put my phone down. This feels like a wildly different place IMO but maybe I'm just not seeing the trash content here that I'd typically see on the other place
