Heβs powering through, almost at the counter, looking back at the keys and his phone. 5-6m away and now slightly out of sight behind a display.
I predict heβs going to get to the counter, hand over the envelope and whilst itβs being dealt with quickly walk back and get his keys and his phone.
Being British I have looked at them in a way for him to acknowledge I have clocked their unusual presence and choice of location but have not said anything.

Ha! It was only years later that I discovered that itβs very unlikely you will fully submerge and perish in quicksandβ¦ but still, the tide was coming in. I have introduced that detail to the anecdote for the sceptical younger audience.
