Geese in the Snow in Brooklyn Bridge Park Sharing photos of geese on a snow-covered lawn in Brooklyn Bridge Park, all captured on February 13, 2026.

Nice shots! Funny enough I was down there a couple of times and saw it with the tarp. Thought about taking a photo for a follow-up post but I failed. I did however capture geese in the snow (did you see them too?) so I'll give myself a pass.

Little White Lies by Circle New Leaf Journal, VictorVGurbo, N.A. Ferrell A short visual novel featuring original music and photography, a public domain song, and remembering past love.

I worked with my good friend and NLJ colleague, Victor V. Gurbo, to make my first visual novel. I built "Little White Lies" in Ren'Py and published it on Itch one week ago for the Gaming Like It's 1930 jam. It takes about 10-15 minutes to see everything.

JP to EN Game Translation Mishaps A mishap translating the name of an RPG called The Crazy Hyper-Dungeon Chronicles into Japanese creates an unexpected Steam success story in Japan.

A humorous story about a translation mishap bring an English RPG title to Japanese reminded me of my experience using Google Translate on the website of a 2005 Japanese visual novel called Gogatsu no sora (May Sky is the official En localized title).

My heroic broken link report to U.S. DOJ I don’t like to brag about being a hero, but sometimes it’s necessary to tell a story to inspire our millions of readers.

In 2023, I came across a broken link in the Department of Justice's Immigration Court Practice Manual. While many other people would have done nothing (the page also had a working link to the same place), I did the "heroic" thing and reported the issue.

While I am not sure about live action 5 Centimeters Per Second (open to giving it a go), I'm a big fan of the animated version. Back in 2022, I wrote about my favorite scene in the movie: Takaki's idyllic memory montage in Act I.

Anime Hairstyles on the Ship of Theseus Does a 2D girl in anime wear a hairstyle, or is she a hairstyle? I examine the Ship of Theseus as applied to anime, with an anecdote.

I was watching Puella Magi Madoka Magica with a friend way back in 2012. I was in college at the time. A philosophy major, no less. My friend's inability to recognize a key character with different hair raised in me some philosophical questions.

Physical Game Cartridges are Pro-User I write in praise and defense of Nintendo’s focus on marketing physical game cartridges for the Switch while its rivals focus on digital-first strategies.

I published an article on March 21, 2022, praising Nintendo for being "cartridge-first" with respect to the Switch. Fortunately, I never predicted that the cause for praise would persist indefinitely.

NLJ was originally on a shared Bluehost server with cPanel. Back in 2022, I moved the site to a Hetzer VPS and manage the server with Cloudron. I consider this a good upgrade, but mileage may vary (note Cloudron free, which I use, has a 2-app limitation).
