The cultists are being surprisingly helpful and cooperative. They're just glad we didn't kill them, and are happy that someone wants to know about their lives.

We have managed to completely derail tonight's game by capturing several cultists (who the GM expected us to kill) and asking them where they are from. Now he has to invent backstories for them on the fly.

It would be awfully nice if the Shadowrun core book actually explained how to make a character and play the game.

I don’t know how to use chatgpt etc but I imagine it’s going to a website and typing β€œoh no what groceries do I buy please tell me false god for I am so weak I cannot go on” as your brain atrophies and leaks out of your ears from disuse and the machine is like β€œbuy eggs milk bread and a horse”

Hi, I have diagnosed c-PTSD and this is true and if you suck at tetris, any bright coloured fast game requiring rapid eye movement and decision making will do! it also helps if you witness something triggering and are trying to stave off an episode

No but this is entirely correct

Their name has always annoyed me. This bird has a body part which is vibrantly red, and it isn't their belly.

It's Official: the Cybertruck is More Explosive than the Ford Pinto - FuelArc News We now have a full year of data for the Cybertruck, and a strange preponderance of headlines about Cybertrucks exploding into flames, including several fatalities. That’s more than enough data to comp...

The Ford Pinto had a death rate of 85 people for 10 million cars sold. The Cybertruck hasn't sold 10 million, but the fatality rate so far maths out to 1,452 people killed per 10 million sold.

The Cybertruck may be the deadliest road car, for the occupants, ever sold.

The Dark-Eyed Juncos are not bothered by the blizzard. If anything, they seem to enjoy the snow. #birds

I can’t believe you lefty Luddites hate tech so much that you embrace mRNA vaccines, heat pumps, electric bikes, hybrid work, renewable power (and awesome advancements in storage), space telescopes, and hot/cold running water but reject the planet destroying plagiarism enrich the worst people bots!

Love that AI, a thing we hate and don’t want, steals everything, ruins everything, shittifies everything. Drinks our water, plagiarizes our art, pisses all over our information fidelity, drives kids to suicide, serves the right-wing, and fucks up our devices and services. Good job, techbros!

I do think habitual chatbot usage is kind of like smoking; there's a range of outcomes, and we very clearly see the worst ones (psychosis, delusions, addiction) but they're all negative. thousands with the cognitive equivalent of being out of breath after one flight of stairs.

So we've been using an Al agent since November to
answer leadership questions about metrics. It seemed
amazing at first fast answers, detailed explanations,
everyone loved it.
I just found out it's been hallucinating numbers this
entire time.
Our VP of sales made territory decisions based on
data that didn't exist. Our CFO showed the board a
deck with fake insights. The Al was just inventing
plausible sounding percentages.
I only caught it by accident when someone asked me
to double check something. I started digging, and
holy shit, it's bad.

Lines of academy cadets, one in command red seated but at attention while in a wheelchair.

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

The History Channel loves to be like β€œdid Hitler store 10 billion dollars Nazi gold in this Pennsylvania house?” and answer that question as demonstrably β€œno of course not” and then make 18 seasons of β€œPennsylvania Hitler House”

Hadn't noticed it initially. That's what I get for grabbing a size comparison chart online and not looking too closely at it.

This makes the ship overall just over a kilometer long, and also gives it a bit over 4 million square meters of deck space spread among 20 decks of the habitat ring. More than enough for a crew of about 5000 even with required storage and recycling for a 4 year mission.

13.02.2026 13:47 πŸ‘ 2 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

The habitat ring (largely buried inside the hull due to requirements of how the FTL drive works) is 200 meters in radius, which at 2RPM gives about 0.9G at the outside edge. That's the smallest I could get it to still give near-Earth gravity at a reasonable rotation rate.

Still need to come up with a good name for it. I wanted to call it "Endurance", but that name is already being used by several current and future spacecraft and I'd like to find something more original.

A size comparison of several landmarks and vehicles, including an aircraft carrier, the Eiffel Tower, the Enterprise-D from Star Trek, and an as yet unnamed spaceship which dwarfs all of them.

Quick sketch and size comparison of the as yet unnamed ship form the story I'm working on. It's actually a lot bigger than I realized when laying out the dimensions, but the size is dictated by the requirements of the rotating section needed for artificial gravity, so it is what it is.

Having Tawny Newsome involved with the writing of this show has turned out to be a very smart choice.

I have to admit that Starfleet Academy is surprising me by being actually pretty good. I had really low expectations going in, but this week and last week's episodes in particular have been excellent.

"I was told you're a monster," the hero said.

"So they say," said the monster.

"But you're beautiful!"

"Thank you."

"Have you always been a monster?"

"Heh. I was a young maiden. But I did something forbidden."

"And became a monster?"

"Got named a monster."

"What did you do?"

"I hit back."

I also sometimes wonder if there's any interest in high concept science fiction procedurals, but ultimately I'm not writing this story for mass appeal, I'm writing it for me.

Of course, one thing I won't be doing is using AI to write any of it.

The goal is for me to become a better writer. That's not going to happen if some machine is doing the writing for me.
