Jason Garcia for MPRB District 4

@jason4parks

I’m excited to represent District 4 and work on equity and park access; honor the history of our parks in District 4; and develop new ways for people to enjoy nature in the city of Minneapolis. They/them. Campaign account only.

Jason Chavez recognizes that leadership and stands with it. That’s the kind of coalition our kids should have behind them. He sees Christin’s conviction and courage. He’s endorsing Christin because our kids deserve it!

Help us win this. 💜 Link in profile🔗

Council Member Jason Chavez (@jchavezmpls.bsky.social) has watched Christin organize, coordinate mutual aid, and stand up for our most vulnerable students.

When ICE's presence threatened our school communities, Christin organized to keep students safe.

Commissioner Conley says HCMC could close without repurposed sales tax revenue.

Republicans passed $1.7 billion in Medicaid cuts over 10 yrs so they could pay out tax cuts to billionaires and boost funding for race-based sweeps by secret police.

Minnesota school districts say federal agents still causing daily disruptions School leaders say that ICE activity is continuing to interrupt daily life for students, staff and families despite the announced end of the two-month surge of federal immigration agents.

ICE activity continues to interrupt daily life for students, staff and families, despite the announced end of the two-month surge of federal immigration agents. Students attend school remotely, staff monitor arrival and dismissal, and leaders wonder when they can resume normal school operations.

MPRB has an officer stationed at the Fred Wells Tennis Facility daily to make sure the parking lot is being secured for park use only. They are not engaged at the Whipple Building.

Additionally, that photo was from earlier in the week.

(1/3) @humanrightsfirst.org 's ICE Flight Monitor report reveals unprecedented numbers of deportation and domestic transfer flights over the 1st year of Trump’s 2nd term, with Jan 2026 showing the continued escalation of the Trump admin’s cruel and lawless deportation campaign.

I imagine they are going to finalize that now that they have the approvals

Also, @parksandpower.bsky.social held a rally before our meeting at Park Board HQ. I appreciate the community members who showed up and shared their concerns about ICE in our parks & keeping our community and workers safe. I’m dedicated to working with people to keep the parks safe and open spaces.

In committees, we had presentations on topics like the 8th Ave Streamscape Plan, LCCMR funding grants, & leaves available to MPRB employees.

Also, our legal counsel suggested the end of Operation Metro Surge may be defined as “whenever Trump is out of office,” an important consideration for us all.

Finally, passing a resolution directing the superintendent to suspend initiation of any evictions of tenants at MPRB rental properties, which was brought forth by my colleague @amberforparks.bsky.social! While there is currently no risk of eviction for tenants, it’s great to have this in place.

Some other items that passed:
*resolution directing the superintendent to conduct an RFP for board legal counsel
*resolution for comparative study of internal vs external legal counsel.

Thank you to @kayforparks.bsky.social for helping with the resolutions and helping them move forward!

I’m personally very excited for the splash pad at Elliot Park! This has been a project the community has been behind & will serve a wonderful neighborhood with limited access to parks in the city. As we see the effects of climate change, water feature will be important to help in the summer heat.

We approved several construction contracts. Some highlights:
*approving almost $2m to implement a skate park at Folwell Park
*awarding a $500k contract for work at the Spark’d Studio project at Phillips Community Center
*in District 4, authorizing $400k for a new splash pad at Elliot Park!

Meeting details Wednesday, 02/18/2026

We had a full agenda for last night’s park board meeting, and I’m happy to say we moved through everything and passed all the resolutions before the board, either unanimously or by large margins.

Full agenda is here: agendasuite.org/iip/mprb/mee...

Woman says partner died following missed cancer treatments due to immigration enforcement fears The 59-year-old is battling lymphoma herself, and said she has filed paperwork to self-deport.

The reason the federal government had to kill the people, withhold the evidence, and light your constitutional rights on fire is to inflict endless misery on people we should all recognize as like our own mothers and grandmothers.

So much anti-trans discourse is nothing but “What about (made-up bullshit about trans people?)”and you do not have to indulge this or treat it like a legitimate argument.

We’re still seeing ICE going in and out of the Whipple building. As long as they’re still here working to separate families, we need to make sure people are out patrolling & keeping watch.

We don’t accept their behavior happening here or anywhere else which is why all of DHS needs to be dismantled

Please don't think anything is back to normal in Minnesota. Nothing is normal.

I know we’re strong. Don’t know if it’s enough.

If you don't live here, your Minnesota friends may tell you that it's going to be okay but I think a lot of that is them being nice so you won't worry.

It's bad here.

It’s been another busy week dealing with the ICE occupation in Minneapolis, but I wanted to give you a Burrito update!

We started this project just over 5 weeks ago, and since then we’ve provided over 1150 meals for people, and spent almost $12k at local, immigrant-owned restaurants!

Another classic post-Homan day where around school dismissal time we get a flurry of ICE vehicles all across our neighborhoods. Today one vehicle led an observer to their own home and pointed at it. This is a sick game to them, but we won’t be intimidated and we won’t stop until DHS is abolished.
