A medieval manuscript image of two men holding hands. Annouces a Symposium in Gender in Medieval Insular Literature, held 29-30 May in Aberystwyth, Wales.
You're going to see this from me a lot for a while. Please share, and contribute if you are a medievalist working in this area! It's going to be great. #medievalsky #genderstudies

We, the activists, creatives, teachers, learners and speakers of the Cornish language community, call on our community and all organisations working with the Cornish language to commit to take no part in the use of Generative AI and to refrain from promoting or publishing any materials using it.
While in another world GenAI and LLMs could be useful tools, we do not live in that world.
We live in a world where GenAI guzzles drinking water, strips countries in the Global South of their resources and then dumps its
e-waste in them. We live in a world where workers, especially creatives and language experts, are losing their livelihoods to GenAI and where our work is stolen for profit. We live in a world where using GenAI has been shown to impair cognition, flatten languages and worsen exploitation.
Our language is a small, indigenous, minoritised one and it is especially vulnerable to these problems—to the risk of being drowned by slop. Our language is a treasure. It must not be surrendered to faceless corporations and thoughtless machines. Our language is human and it does not live on circuitry or in an algorithm. It lives in the mouths and minds of people.
We, as speakers, believe that Cornish is a language that thrives only through human creativity and passion, through authenticity, community, effort and trust. Our language must be for the people, of the people and by the people. We will not work with GenAI and we will not trust those who do.
We call on our community to pledge not to engage with GenAI and to join us in resistance.

This, from the Quakers, is worth reading. It's a serene, confident, utter rebuke of the hate and fear that's peddled by Sex Matters. The last two pages are smokin'. If you're on the wrong side of the Quakers, you really need to sit down and have a good chat with yourself.

trans healthcare is often lifesaving for more reasons than suicidality. for example, my disordered eating basically disappeared overnight after i got top surgery, because it was dysphoria the whole time (lose weight = smaller boobs = pursue indefinitely until it becomes unsafe). this is important!

For those who don't know her, Inky is a terrific artist, a great art director, and a wonderful person.
Do yourself and your organization a favor by hitting her up with commissions or by hiring to get your graphic art department into good shape.

Half the reason I enjoy reading the adjudications is the roasts; they're often hilarious and sometimes even offer good advice/learning material for an amateur/novice poet like myself.

A formline design of a brown wolf and it's pup. The wolf is sitting on its haunches with its head tilted downward, while the pup is sitting in front of it, pawing at its leg and looking upward with it's tongue stuck out.

Discovered if I switch my WhatsApp language settings to Irish, the Meta AI thing goes away, because it's not supported in Irish yet. Minority languages: the last bastion against Tech Nonsense ??

Hiya! The only life update i have is that I'm stressed in the middle of final year, and hope you're doing better! I don't think we share many fandoms so I'll just say I saw our old boss recently and she seems to be doing well! Hope everything's alright with you, and Japan's treating you well!

Question: Are there any good resources you'd recommend for learning about the Gaulish language in depth, from the perspective of knowing a fair bit about Insular Celtic and Indo-European linguistics? (Preferably in French, English, Welsh, or Irish?) Many thanks for this explanation!

Today, the UK government announced a proposal to change copyright law - for the benefit of AI companies - that would cause huge, irreversible harm to creators.
More info below, but most importantly here's what you can do (wherever you live):

Dissertation stress mostly, but things are starting to look up. I've instituted a "No doing or even thinking about my assignments (incl. diss) after 7pm or on weekends" rule and it's been helping keep me going, even if it means that i have less time to study. How about you?

There comes a point, when doing this self erasure, that you lose the ability to understand your wants.
Choosing to transition is the first step of "actually I do want something," but it is just one of many. I wonder if the rest of my life will be spent learning what it is, exactly, that I want.
