Even small increases in speed (like 10 mph) raise a driver's chance of hitting and killing a pedestrian.

Thanks @joshmatlow.bsky.social & @anotherglassbox.bsky.social for hosting tonight's Changing Lanes screening @ City Hall which was packed. Even though the film focused on NYC, there are many parallels found in Toronto too. We should have more of these screenings at city hall! #BikeTO #WalkTO #TOpoli

Bravo to Canadian Prime Minister @mark-carney.bsky.social for that powerful speech at Davos yesterday. I think his cat Nico gave him some tips. β€οΈπ€
βOne mile on a bike is a $.42 economic gain to society, one mile driving is a $.20 loss.β
βWhich means that Copenhagen, a city of 1.2 million people, saves $357 million a year on health costs because something like 80% of its population commutes by bike.β #CityMakingMath
Some costs arenβt costs.
Started today - would have yesterday but too much snow. Studded tires to the fore
True - I thought it was Tony Romo - great commentary and chapeau!
My new slogans/taglines
1. A bike in a bike lane is one less car in front of you
2. That bicyclist could be your neighbor. Be my neighbor. (I live in Pittsburgh, home of Mr. Rogers)
3. Want to be happier? Ride a bike!
4. Two wheels, fewer pills.
Got others?

I quite like that photo. Do you know the owner?
The black and white image shows two bicycles locked to a post, their wheels casting large overlapping shadows across the sunlit pavement.

Cycling and Pedestrian Projects is hiring three temporary Transportation Engineers to work on capital projects that implement bikeways, road safety improvements and Complete Streets features. Apply by January 6. https://jobs.toronto.ca/jobsatcity/job/Toronto-TRANSPORTATION-ENGINEER-ON-M/597961817/
To be fair CityNews had it around 45 minutes - car around 30 so if the promised 10 minute reduction this Spring may be adequate...I could be wrong though!
Very sorry to hear.
Two people cycle in a dedicated bike lane that is separated from the roadway by green infrastructure. A person using a mobility aid waits to cross an intersection, standing behind a tactile walking surface indicator.

So this is fun! Thank you @torontolifemag.bsky.social for giving recognition to this cause, and to everyone for helping fight back against provincial overreach to save our bike lanes:

Toronto is at a crossroads. For too long, weβve oriented our infrastructure around private vehicles, roads, parking lots & highways. In doing so, weβve accepted serious trade-offs: poorer health, weaker communities, reduced safety and mobility for many. Itβs time to pivot from car-centred thinking.

You've got 18ish days to comment on Bill 60, Ford's latest anti bike lane laws! Read our blog on taking action, the importance of identifying intersections w other communities affected & what your local cycling advocacy groups are doing to fight back!

The most insanely frustrating thing about the #ClimateCrisis is how the breakthrough we so clearly need isnβt technological. Itβs just a collective willingness, a determination even, to change in ways that would clearly be SO MUCH BETTER than the clear and obvious consequences of NOT changing.
βOntarioβs [actually Doug Fordβs] plan to ban bike lanes is ripped from the business lobbyβs wish list. Buried in a new omnibus bill, the latest salvo in Doug Fordβs war on bikes is more than a vendettaβitβs a gift to corporate lobbyists.β Via @breachmedia.ca
Money over lives and better mobility.
New from me in @breachmedia.ca: It's easy to see Ford's war on bike lanes as a personal vendetta and an attempt to stir up a culture war. But more than that, it's part of a bigger pattern of Ford serving corporate interests β from real estate firms to Uber.
