4.6 Billion Years On, the Sun Is Having a Moment In the past two years, without much notice, solar power has begun to truly transform the world’s energy system.

Among all the big bad things happening on our planet, there's one Big Good Thing, the sudden, startling rise of solar energy.
It changes the power dynamic, in every sense of the word 'power.'

Planning Bill breaks Labour’s nature promises, say The Wildlife Trusts and RSPB | The Wildlife Trusts New evidence shows nature does not block growth New poll: Voters say Labour’s failing nature Pull part 3 of the Bill: nature recovery pretence is β€˜licence to destroy’

Surprise surprise: turns out that protecting bats and newts is having very little impact on development. Almost as if the government would prefer lazy scapegoating than addressing the real causes of the housing crisis.

More ambition needed to reduce pesticides, say The Wildlife Trusts | The Wildlife Trusts UK Government publishes new pesticide plan today – The Wildlife Trusts respond

The National [sic] Action Plan for sustainable pesticide use, published last month a dilatory 7 years after it was due to be renewed, has been long awaited and much needed if we are to reverse the declines in wildlife across both England & Wales. www.wildlifetrusts.org/news/more-am...

Did you know the violet carpenter bee (Xylocopa violacea) is one of the largest bees in Europe?

These pollinators are more commonly seen in the warmer regions of Europe but can occasionally be found in the UK too.

All of which begs an important question: what is happening to wild #bees in Britain?

Three days ago 2 pesky magpies landed in an ivy clad sycamore tree & began frantically nest building. Yesterday it was complete but by 9am it already has new occupants! Mobbed by 4 noisy crows it appears they have lost the early morning #spring Corvid battle.

Frog in a pond

Frog in a pond

The number of ponds in the UK halved in the 20th century – of those that remain, 80% are in a poor state. Healthy ponds support frogs, toads, dragonflies, & all sorts of other wildlife – so garden ponds are more important than ever.
