This is *extremely* unprofessional of Rankin to go on for 5 minutes to attack a community member, though at least not by name, for the email mentioned below.

Sadly that's how Rankin operates, in public and in private. She believes she's right to attack people who she disagrees with.

This is @janedemel.bsky.social taking over for @thebethocracy.bsky.social in posting the Seattle school board meeting. They are voting on Board Policy No. 2416, Performance-Based Pathway for High School Graduation. It has passed unanimously.

Agreed. And as long as Liza Rankin and Evan Briggs are on that board, the HCC community really can’t ever relax.

I’m glad Rep. Reed fought for those transit bonds. It would be interesting to know why her colleagues did not. Seattle’s legislative delegation makes up nearly half the Democratic caucus. They could have forced the issue. Instead, some of them are now even more vulnerable to strong challengers.

The board is in charge. Of everything. State law is super duper clear on that. They can and should delegate to the Superintendent but the board retains ultimate authority and responsibility over district operations. Rankin’s insistent disagreement on that helped create confusion like this.

I think this Cascade PP testimony-fest is really a microcosm of what a bad job we're doing of creating inclusive neighborhood schools for special education families. Many of these kids sound like they would require much costlier private services if it weren't for Cascade. It's a hard question.

That's a huge mistake by that principal. People should be furious.

Of course, this is the sort of thing Seattle's #waleg delegation should be involved in helping fund, but good luck getting any of them to care about funding public schools.

First big mistake by the new SPS Superintendent, Ben Shuldiner, was imposing huge cuts to this great SPS school that helps kids whose needs weren't met in other SPS schools. He's backtracked slightly on some cuts to Cascade Parent Partnership, but many remain, and need to be reversed.

This looks like a case about the environmental review of Seattle's growth plan, which is how other news outlets have covered it.

But it's actually a major test of statewide SEPA reforms, with judges putting their fingers on a major potential loophole.

March 11, 2026 – Regular Board Meeting – Seattle Public Schools

HELLO SEATTLE! It's a school board meeting night and I am going to try to tweet as much as I can handle. It's a loooooong agenda. SURE WISH THERE WAS MORE THAN ONE REGULAR MEETING A MONTH. Here's the Agenda for the March 11, 2026 Seattle School Board Meeting: www.seattleschools.org/board-meetin...

Dems. Please.
Stop proposing and running on tax cuts.

I have no idea where this cursed trend came from, although I can guess. But your hypothesis on why to do this is wrong and you are badly missing where most Americans are at.

Short thread with sources, focus group sound, and data.

It's so much worse.

Nadia Schadlow: "Congress does not have a constitutional role in the declaration of war."

Ezra Klein calmly reads Article I: "Congress shall have the power to declare war."

Schadlow:

Yep. It really does not seem to me like legislators understand how popular these projects are. But if I'm a declared challenger to an incumbent legislator, I'm looking at potentially a winning issue placed right in my lap.

11.03.2026 20:25 πŸ‘ 6 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

Excellent point.

I genuinely do not think state legislators, especially the Seattle delegation, are prepared for the consequences of this. If the ST board winds up messing with the West Seattle or Ballard projects, the fallout will rebound onto #waleg.

11.03.2026 20:23 πŸ‘ 7 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

The millionaire's tax, in its current form, represents another hit to Sound Transit's long-term financial outlook that I don't think is getting acknowledged.

11.03.2026 20:21 πŸ‘ 41 πŸ” 6 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 0

There are already a lot of strong challengers to incumbent legislators this year…and those legislators just handed those challengers a huge opening by failing on passenger rail.

11.03.2026 20:21 πŸ‘ 14 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

It would also be good of our Governor, who won his first election 20+ years ago as a Sound Transit skeptic against a longtime pro-rail incumbent County Councilmember, to also share his plans to get those projects built.

These are projects of major statewide importance.

11.03.2026 20:19 πŸ‘ 24 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

I’d like Seattle’s #waleg delegation, especially those representing the 34th and 36th districts, to explain to the public what their plan is to ensure rail gets to West Seattle and Ballard on time as voters approved nearly 10 years ago. If not 75-year bonds, then what?

11.03.2026 20:18 πŸ‘ 34 πŸ” 4 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

I'd love to, and have heard nothing but great things about it. That said, I don't know when I'll be in New England next...or even anywhere near that part of the country. And the kids all want to go back to Hawaii or California and honestly I can't blame them. But someday I do want to visit Maine.

11.03.2026 20:10 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I've been to all those states except Maine so I can't speak to that one, and obviously I don't live there as you do...but...your ranking looks right to me overall. I'd nudge Vermont up to 3rd place though. It's just different and interesting enough. But maybe I need to explore coastal RI more.

We definitely need to prepare for the possibility that Senate Rs might get the votes they need to end the filibuster for this unprecedented attack on voting rights. Senate Democrats will need to turn up their own pressure to ensure that doesn't happen, including bringing the Senate to a halt.

The Science of POOR Kindergarten Reading Instruction - Nancy Bailey's Education Website The push to have kindergarteners read through standardized drilling of sounds is one of the main reasons I distrust the Science of Reading. It's hard to disregard how children develop, their age, and ...

Kindergarten never used to push phonics drills on early learners, and for good reason. Here, I question Neuman and Bukzin's search for more rigor in kindergarten. nancyebailey.com/2026/03/11/t...
