One of my kids really struggled with focusing when he had to read at night, so I got him a little mp3 player and put a bunch of soundtracks on there. Now he listens to the LOTR soundtrack every night and it works.

Into the garbage bin they go, right next to Target.

We don’t need your shitty brands! You’re expendable but trans people are not.

Yep. My fingers were absolutely out of shape and sluggish compared to what they were, but sitting around running exercises and scales for a while helps.

Music is still music and I enjoy how easy it is to dive back in.

It's exactly like the rise of fascism in the US.

For years, people said: These people are fascists.

Centrist: Let's be sensible here. That's pretty extreme.

Guess what happened?

Just guess.

Now we all gotta pretend it's neat they finally accept Republicans are fascists.

In the late 90s and early 2000s, major recording artists and actors sold out the free internet to corporations to stop piracy. Only for corporations to turn around and create streaming services that rob those artists more than ever.

It really marked the beginning of a dark era.

Like objectively so, you can trace where things got really dark right after.

Like look, do I rip most of my CDs to listen to digitally? Absolutely. Or I'll buy a digital album via Bandcamp or whatever. But CDs own. I'm the same way with movies, too. I like to have the thing and then rip them for ease of use.

That's always my favorite kinda stuff.

"Technically, this is a mess, but together it works."

Like Buckaroo Bonzai.

Terrible movie by all regards.

AND YET. AND YET.

I mean, if you're a guy with a job that's to watch and critique movies, and you like something, there's probably a reason for it.

Uncovering why he didn't think any of the core aspects were "good" and yet it worked would have been interesting.

This is also why engaging with comments is pointless, as is pretending that "outrage" as measured in comments is a useful metric. Yet all of the algorithms are still designed to measure engagement this way, and using these signals to serve you (mis) information.

An image of the book 'On the Edge of Night and Day'

A remote outpost. An alien life form. A mystery.

Stella had her heart set on spending her work term as part of the second mission to the core of New Venus. Instead, she’s assigned to a remote science outpost on a forgotten moon.

To make things worse, she’s stuck with Dizzyβ€”her chaotic, endlessly curious classmate who talks too much, breaks too many rules, and seems determined to actually enjoy their exile.

But as the days pass, Stella starts to see a different side of Dizzy as their work at the outpost reveals strange, breathtaking secrets. A colossal fungal organism that might be sentient and is definitely growing. Mysterious, gravity defying particles. Fragments of research long buried. Then Dizzy stumbles across the biggest secret yetβ€”a previous student died at the outpost under suspicious circumstancesβ€”circumstances that are happening again.

Now, Stella and Dizzy must rely on each other to uncover the truth of what happened at the outpostβ€”before whatever’s growing out there comes for them next.

On the Edge of Night and Day is now out!

A trip to a isolated science outpost on a tidally locked world flooded with fabulous fungi leads to a mystery. But, at it’s core this is a book about friendship.

Non-writers are wondering why in the replies, and it's basically math. Authors typically make a few bucks or less /copy and even a Big 5 book can sell <10k and that might even meet expectations (depending). Like all things in capitalism, it's uneven, with a small minority of authors selling lots.

What celebrity death hurt you the most (also a tie)?

Gonna see how that goes.

I haven't taken my turntable out of the garage in a while.

I'd need a new phono preamp and that's the last thing I need... More gear.

Cough.

I can't wait for all of you to get off of the streaming stuff and rediscover how luxurious listening to a CD whilst reading the liner notes really is.

I went to a "retreat" that I had to do to get my confirmation.

My parents had divorced and going to this shit was always because of my mom.

Sitting in a school gym listen to a guy talk about how he used to jerk off until he found God made me call my dad to pick me up and I said I was done.

I self pubbed my first book back in 2013.

The story, plotting, pacing and whatever else were good.

The actual writing, editing and other stuff like that were embarrassing. It's been out of print for almost ten years now and occasionally I chip away at it. Then realize it's not worth it.
