Actually "Jack Adrian" was the pseudonym of the very alive Chris Lowder. When he had a falling out with Gold Eagle about three-quarters of the way of the first book, Laurence James replaced him and wrote the series up until 1995. Gold Eagle marketing came up with the "James Axler" house name.
