marathon is a good game because sometimes you stumble into Worldbuilding

Just some samples while I'm working out lettering. I'm struggling a bit with the whole using Affinity to do letters as I'm much more used to hand-drawing my effects and letters - so enjoy some stuff that's been hand-lettered in the meantime.

I didn't play the beta so I can't speak to that, but I can tell you every base worth checking out is full of fuckass robots and players are always lurking. several of the most lucrative objectives summon a whole ass dropship full of robocops just for you
yes to the former, and it's specifically good because it does the latter in ways that aren't just "'member marathon?"
progressing the various questlines is neat, and they thematically justify the entire multiplayer framework within the world itself
basically it's an Exoprimal-like
so it's a better version of all of those things (60hz servers is a godsend for combat feel, it looks better, it solves for gear fear) but it isn't necessarily built to change minds
it's a bit hard to explain but I see it like this
original Marathon was a technically impressive shooter that was very much in the wake of Doom but made notable improvements and had good writing
this is the same, just in a different genre, one that's not so new anymore
I was initially surprised at just how much I'm enjoying Marathon, but I think it can be best summarized by "this is a game where you can play as the POV chase monster from Evil Dead 2"

it's very good! I was worried it'd be too Res Arcana-ish but the movement mechanic and drafting gives it enough interaction to keep me engaged, and the engines scale well
