I think of a comedian (who totally escapes me now) who put it this way: We could not PC on stage if it weren’t for right wing ideology. If you made the awful joke on stage and knew in your audience people weren’t agreeing with you, but laughing at how ridiculous the idea was, it changes everything

Placebo trials had happened, and the standard therapy was BETTER than the placebo. So when you test new therapies against the standard, your testing are we better than the standard which is BETTER than the placebo. To test people against a placebo would be unethical.

The same is true for vaccines.

One of the options in my CLL treatment was to be in a trial for a new therapy. The control group received the current standard therapy for CLL, not a placebo. Why? Because people would die.

When people read the headlines that RFK is going to make them use placebo trials for vaccines again, it makes it sound like scientists are being unsafe. But, it’s incredibly misleading.
