When I was a teen my uncle was "the local bookie" but didn't have internet, so he paid me to go online and give updated lines. I'd change lines and bet the money he was paying me on lines I'd shaded to my advantage. Hard to get into modern online sports betting when you've lived that.
I've dealt with small-time local bookies a lot pre-legalization (generally not personally gambling but just being around/knowing them) and they pretty much all were well-liked dudes who everyone enjoyed hanging around with. Annecdotal, sure, but that was how it always was for me in the old days.

Re: the BMF title fight. I argue that Oliveira's win may have been the *MOST* BMF way to win. Getting a cool knockout is, like, sure, pretty awesome for that moment. But there's no worse "i'm getting my ass kicked" feeling than being trapped under someone much better at BJJ than you for 20+ minutes
