Good news: New X-rays came back and the vet said her leg is lookin' great! They think it'll be another 2 weeks to get muscle mass back, but she's been given the okay to go up and down steps without being carried.
Our home is extremely vertical, so my back is very thankful for that last bit of news

What does a "download link" have to do with backups? That isn't a consumer backing up their games, that's piracy which isnt even the topic being discussed here.
We haven't gone past the need at all. Do you know how many digital only games were lost after the Wii U and 3DS eShop went down?
Your every day general consumer does not have the ability to backup their games.
You can pass along your physical games to family and friends. You can sell them, you can play them in 15 years when the digital storefronts go down. You can pop them in and play without internet.
