hey, do I know anyone from the US who's coming to #kubecon in Amsterdam and has a little space in their luggage I could fill with something light that doesn't ship outside the US? I'm looking for a chai mule for this delightful stuff
Thousands of yellow flowers in a desert, with mountains in the background.
According to the BBC, this year's Death Valley flower season is one of the best recorded. I was lucky enough to pass through there in March 2008, another excellent year for the flowering desert.
So here's a look at what it was like then...
In light of today's #BirdOfTheDay, this week's Crow Time is one that gets you right in the feels...

A large black bird on a wooden pole, behind it out of focus is a large white building at the foot of a mountain.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Corvidae: any corvid, from jays to ravens.
So from a recent rail tour of Italy and Switzerland, a rather well-fed crow on a piling at the lake harbour in Lucerne.

Such an excellent film. And of course there was a tip of the hat to it in Star Trek Strange New Worlds...
You did say beeries?
Brains! We need brains!
There was an interesting expanding design used by Psion in the PCMIA Gold Card in the early aughts. However it proved to be unreliable and they quickly switched to dongles.
Mechanical solutions rarely survive the business traveller.
PolyAImory.
And I expanded on things I've been thinking about for some time to look at using the edge as part of digital twins, for control and for management.
For the last few years I've been contributing to the State of the Edge report from LF Edge and this year I got to go back to the predictions I'd made in a previous year about edge compute in space - just as it became somewhere between timely and political.
Blame Dubya.
A magnolia flower starting to unfurl.
A magnolia tree with flowers. Behind it is a brick house and a blue sky.
The magnolias in our street are blooming at last.
I never heard of that one! It looks fascinating...
Popped out to the Post Office and didn't need a coat. That's my definition of the start of spring...
Rams don't Dodge.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #Sideprofiles with an alternate option of #Robins.
A trip to the Spit in the Wandle earlier in the winter gives us a two-for-one as this robin sings his territorial bounds.

While I really got into TTRPGs with the litle black books of Traveller, my first actual RPG was "Eye Of The Dragon", a sample game that Ian Livingstone created for his 1982 book about RPGs, Dicing With Dragons. The bundled solo game was basically a prototype for the Fighting Fantasy books.
Halfway through the second of Paul Cornellβs Lychford novellas in The Lychford Collection. Enjoyable rural fantasies.
Another superb live recording of Archive in concert, here with a full orchestra playing much of their new album.
This showcases why they are my favourite modern prog group. Deep, dark, moving music that mixes electronica and rock.

A dark black/green bird with a yellow face standing on a large wooden post in a river.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is a #Photogenic bird.
I think that has to be the cormorants posing on the plinths of the Point Pleasant pilings.

Well you know that means you have to go out birding!
A small grey and yellow bird with a long tail standing in a river.
Today's #BirdOfTheDay theme is #StandingInWater. I think I might be a little spoilt for choice living by the Wandle delta...
But maybe something a little different? Here's a grey wagtail having a bit of a paddle underneath the Wandle weir.

4pm today on BBC Radio 4 Extra itβs the repeat of my adaptation of Iain M. Banksβ The State of the Art, with Sir Antony Sher as the ship. So proud of this amazing production by @nadiamolinari.bsky.social

Yeah, I suspect so...
At least you got a win out of the chaos!
One can only hope.
