Australia has shown how subsidising solar works. Itโ€™s not a concept, itโ€™s already been achieved in the real world. Yet NAF coalition govt.? โ€œNah, LNG imports mateโ€. Who voted for these people? Seriously? Talk about BAD decision making ๐Ÿ˜ณ. Their economic mismanagement will reverberate for years #nzpol

Now feels like a good time to remember that Big Oil is the reason why we're still hooked on dirty, dangerous fossil fuels.

The industry's lies have essentially stolen a generationโ€™s worth of time that we could have used to transition to cleaner, safer energy sources.

Itโ€™s time for accountability.

A corker of a sunset in broad lurid pink and orange streaks against the last blue of the day - the colours reflected back by the beach at low tide, for double the impact.

A fella in silhouette attempting to photograph tonightโ€™s glorious sunset: to the left, long ripples of brilliant orange clouds, radiating from where the sun has just dipped below the horizon; to the right, a more demure mix of pink and purple-grey fluffy stuff.

Meanwhile at the north end of the beach, where the sky is still a fluffy quilt of pink and blue, lads are being lads and setting off fireworks to and from the pontoon, stranded at low tide. In the background, the โ€œpointโ€ of Point Chevalier (Rangi-mata-rau), sandstone cliffs held together by gnarly old pลhutukawa and topped by rickety old pines.

Have you tried Shot Espresso (Fulham and other locations)? My son used to manage the cafes. They used Allpress beans. Was a favorite of AoNZ/Aus/Italian & Pons in the know. Customers came from all around London. Can't vouch for the brew now, but it was damn fine in 2017 when we were last there.

Reaching net zero by 2050 is often framed as a cost burden.

The UK Climate Change Committeeโ€™s latest analysis suggests the opposite.

The real risk is fossil fuel dependency.

How Trump and His Advisers Miscalculated Iranโ€™s Response to War

We're governed by morons: "โ€ฆas President Trump weighed whether to launch military attacks on Iran, Chris Wright, the energy secretary, told an interviewer he was not concerned that the looming war might disrupt oil supplies in the Middle East and wreak havoc in energy markets."

We failed to avert dangerous climate change. That has consequences. Here I discuss three that, alas, no government seems to want to publicly acknowledge. My latest for Technosphere Earth

Vicious, rich, soulless arseholes.. this is direct from the Atlas manual. People will die because of this.

Expect more of this before the election, People. Their voter base loves it and they are emboldened to make your lives miserable.

Why?
Because we can!

IT IS NOT THE JOB OF A PUBLIC BROADCASTER IN A DEMOCRACY TO REPORT THE NEWS IN A WAY THE GOVERNMENT LIKES. IT IS ESPECIALLY NOT OKAY FOR MINISTERS AND POLITICALLY-APPOINTED BOARD MEMBERS TO DICATE INDIVIDUAL EDITORIAL DECISIONS. THIS SHOULD BE FUCKING OBVIOUS.

Christopher Luxon forced into another correction over Iran war visas The Greens say the prime minister "snuck" into the House "late last night" to correct the record.

Fairly high up the list of attributes required from a Prime Minister is "good in a crisis". Then there's this fool saying whatever comes into his head. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...

โ€˜Servile and silentโ€™ - the government is caving to Trump on Iran New Zealand has a choice when it comes to the conflict in Iran: to go along with Trumpโ€™s policies, or stand by its values as a nation, writes Phil Goff.

โ€˜We apparently no longer have the courage to speak freely in support of our values and interests as a sovereign nation.

Our first priority has become to avoid attracting the attention of the playground bully.โ€™ - Phil Goff.

โ€œAnd what about its direct influence on politicians and policy?โ€

A good question that media donโ€™t seem to be asking ahead of the NZ election.

The Auckland Astronomical Society provided one of the streams during #Slooh's Star Party. Totality was awesome but this was the moment for me: darkness disappearing over Tycho, Copernicus and Kepler plus Aristarchus gleaming brightly. Hope and stability.
