Past events exist, after all, only in memory, which is a form of imagination. The event is real now, but once it’s then, its continuing reality is entirely up to us, dependent on our energy and honesty.

E.P. Thompson: "History is a cultural form within which we fight and many have fought before us. Nor are we alone when we fight there for we are historians because we know that the past is not dead, inert, and confining, but is strong with energies which can brought once again to our side."

I think that if you're a writer and you don't invent a word every now and then you're missing out on a solid chunk of the fun.

Reparations for Slavery in the Eighteenth Century - The Philosophers' Magazine Julia Jorati draws attention to arguments for reparations for slavery in the era of the American Revolution.

I wrote an essay about 18th-century arguments for slavery-reparations, which is now available in Philosophers' Magazine. It focuses on arguments by Black antislavery activists in Massachusetts, so I'm glad it came out during Black History Month! #philsky #academicsky #blackhistory
