Absolutely fair enough. Could have done without Henry this series really but thereβs still enough going on elsewhere to keep me hooked.

This season has been hit and miss but ep 6 is one of my favourite ever episodes. Episode 5 pretty good as well. Essentially more Eric = better Industry.
I think Steve Walsh (then Leicester chief scout) is credited with that one. I was there for Kante's debut at Bury in the League Cup where Ranieri played him on the right wing, before he realised quite what he had on his hands.
Dude sent (further) mad after wife divorced him because he was on the internet too much. Many such cases.
Second episode is absolutely crackers. Seems to have divided opinion, but I loved it.
This is a great piece on my old (now neighbouring) constituency.
Thanks!
I read The Sense of an Ending a few years back and enjoyed it, but not quite enough to dig into the Barnes back catalogue. What would you recommend?
Itβs a βManchester over countryβ line though, which I can really get on board with.
Iβm less interested in the politics of it than the principle I guess. Itβs an important job with serious responsibilities and leaving halfway through a term has serious consequences for policy and delivery.
Iβm a bit surprised your piece doesnβt acknowledge the devolutionist argument in favour of blocking Burnham from standing - that only under exceptional circumstances should a mayor be allowed to walk out of a job that 420,000 people elected him into.
Police and Crime Commissioners and elected mayors Members of the House of Commons may stand for election as a Police and Crime Commissioner. However, if they are elected they must resign their seat before taking up the post of Police and Crime Commissioner. If a Police and Crime Commissioner becomes a Member of the House of Commons, he or she is automatically disqualified from holding office as Police and Crime Commissioner. Members of the House of Lords are not disqualified from being a Police and Crime Commissioner. Directly elected mayors are not disqualified unless they also exercise the functions of Police and Crime Commissioners.
Itβs in the Cities and Local Government Act 2016. Hereβs the relevant bit in Erskine May.
Yep, itβs rubbish. I know a guy who knows the guy involved in the rebrand and apparently the franchise owners were insistent that the name must be Sunrisers-City to align with their other clubs.
I for one welcome our new elephant overlords.
Yep, quite commonly consumed by blokes in their 30s and 40s from what I hear. Seems to be similar to Mounjaro in that technically there are a bunch of hoops you need to jump through to get a prescription, but practically anyone who is happy to pay can get it.
There are similar signs at my (council-owned, very non-bro) gym and heard a few teenagers in the changing room last night quite openly talk about their steroid use. Knew a couple of lads who were using when I was that age but it seems way more prevalent now.
Another consideration for Labour is that the English Devolution Bill isn't law yet, which means a snap mayoral by-election could be under first past the post and not the preferential vote that will soon be reintroduced. That would likely favour Reform, if last May's elections are anything to go by.
Guess this makes Jay from The Inbetweeners the Michael Foucault of our age
I grew up not far from here. That ward has historically been pretty solid rural Tory but it seems the Greens have got a bit of a foothold recently. Labour have never had much of a presence in that part of Amber Valley.
Louis Armstrong chose five of his own records and, incredibly, his own autobiography.
A map of the proposed Northern Powerhouse Rail route.
Northern Powerhouse Rail is back - but after a decade of uncertainty, will it really happen this time? @tjarnold.bsky.social discussses the decade-long history of the project and what it tells us about the progress and limitations of devoluton. www.liverpool.ac.uk/heseltine-in...
This promo launching the new Hundred franchise is right up there with The Courteeners and βwe do things differentlyβ for artificially Mancified cringe. youtu.be/CDpGgpbxIVc
Have you heard anything about Transport for the Northβs role in NPR 2.0? Iβve barely seen any mention of it by government or anyone else this week.
Heard Stephan Shemilt on TMS talk about how when Baz and Stokes came in the England team was full of gnarled veterans who needed unshackling, now itβs a team of much younger players who need to be taught how to play test cricket. Which I thought was a good way of explaining the last 18 months or so.
He barely played any long-form cricket last summer did he? At least in 2026 you'd imagine he'll play all six tests if he's fit. Will probably get away with it next year but in 2027 you'd really want him skipping the IPL and getting two months of county champo in before the Ashes.
Don't know how much the Blast makes in total but it must be hugely important for non-Test and non-Hundred grounds. Every televised game I watch at Taunton, Derby, Bristol etc looks packed. Even for Lancashire the Roses derby and other big Friday night matches are big money spinners.
Timing of the IPL and the Hundred don't help. IPL finishes on 31 May this year, so any English players involved miss the first two months of the county championship. There are only a handful of championship games in June and July due to the Blast. Then the Hundred takes out another month.
First time I visited London on my own was when I was about 17. Was trying to get to Camden to see if I could spot a Libertine or two in The Hawley Arms but mistakenly turned down Pentonville Road instead. I felt like a pretty streetwise teenager but it looked seriously sketchy even during daytime.
