anyway if you do think you have actual cushings you will need actual treatment for it so talk to a doctor and advocate for yourself hard. i know it sucks for people facing undiagnosed chronic conditions who are just looking for An Answer. i just wouldn't look to influencers for those answers.
so while i am not a doctor i also am uniquely qualified to get incredibly pissy whenever weirdos online start trying to tell people that they have cortisol issues in order to sell them snake oil or even just to get their engagement. pretty fucked
folks have asked me whether i even can get scared or stressed anymore because my body doesn't produce adrenaline or cortisol.
i do still have stress, i just have to take extra cortisol for it or else those situations will make me ill and kill me. i keep an emergency shot of cortisol in my bag.
and i have had "too high" cortisol too because I HAVE HAD CUSHINGS. an overproduction of unneeded cortisol is literally Cushings. it is not just a puffy face, it is a whole disease, WHICH CAN KILL YOU, and the way your face looks will be the least of your problems if you have it.
my body does not organically produce cortisol, bc my adrenal glands wete removed. i have to take doses throughout the day, and i have to double or triple those doses if i am sick or injured or the body will go into "adrenal crisis" which again, will kill you if untreated.
i think, too, that people read abt cortisol being a "stress hormone" and they think only about emotional stress. but cortisol helps your body deal with physical stressors too, like illness or injury. if you do not have cortisol when you need it you can and will die.
does stress negatively impact your body over time? i mean yeah. but cortisol isn't Stress. it is a hormone your body gives you that helps you to DEAL with stress. it is a helper!!
tiktok "health" influencers are evil for many many reasons but my personal biggest grievance with them at the moment is the way that they talk about cortisol. like come on babes. you don't have a "cortisol face" because your face gets puffy sometimes. "low cortisol" won't fix you
