When we speak, the flow of sound has no interruptions except for when we take in air to breathe or to organise our thoughts. So, we don’t make pauses between words the way they are written in a text. This makes listening harder than reading.

What's your favourite activity when learning a new language?
I still remember how I couldn’t PRONOUNCE even simple words in Polish 🇵🇱 and felt desperate. Now I communicate in it without any problems.
I don’t care what level I am. Just being able to use it EASILY in any situation means the world to me.
You CAN do it 💪
Why it’s not always your fault when you’re struggling with a new language - my new article on @Medium

Most language courses I've tried in the last few years have very little practice of the material studied. But without practice, it's very hard to grow your language skills.
❗ Practice is the key to learning a language, not lengthy explanations and word lists!

Ability to use a language is a skill which is learnt by TRYING TO DO it - practice is more important than just memorizing stuff
Well, trying again… for the 4th time 🤯 What’s wrong with me?
“Learning-of anything, anywhere- demands energy and attention from the learner. One person cannot learn anything for anyone else. It has to be
done by your own personal effort. Nobody else can transmit understanding or skills into your head.“

Really? 😅😍 OMG 🎉

🔥 So proud to get my certificate for Introduction to Intercultural Studies: Language and Culture on @FutureLearn: www.futurelearn.com/certificates... #FLlanguageculture
It’s kinda funny how I don’t switch to English when I am in Prague even though I don’t speak any Czech. It’s like my brain says to itself, ‘You’re in a Slavic language zone - speak Polish’ 😀
I obtained the Busuu language certificate - Beginner A1 Italian on #Busuu
At last 💃
English everyday phrases that are not translated literally 🤯

Why #listening understanding is so hard in a foreign language - reason 1️⃣
😱 Unfamiliar sound system
Our brain might ignore unfamiliar sounds of the target language making it hard to recognise some words.
💯 Learning #pronunciation is important

I am finally back to learning Italian after a break.
Very rusty 😱
It's not a good idea to take long breaks when you're an A1 learner.
I have the same icon 😆
Gave up a couple of weeks ago but studied daily for several months
So, it’s just not you 😅
AI has really sped up my course production process 💃
What used to take 2 hours now takes about 20 minutes *hat off*
Do you properly punctuate informal messages in your own language or ‘Who the hell needs commas and full stops in messengers’?

Recent films that are quite easy to understand, even for #englishlearners:
🎬 A man called Otto
🎬 Thelma
🎬 Find me falling
Of course, they are still not as easy as learning materials, but it’s a good start if you really want to watch something authentic.
Just read a funny post from an Irish friend of mine how she had to translate a phrase ‘for ages’ to an American while boarding a plane in Dublin.
If there are any Americans seeing this - do you understand what this phrase means? Would you ever use it yourself?

Trying to revive my rusty A1 in #german. It’s been years 😢
I have such a difficult relationship with this language - no idea why 🤯
Fingers crossed 🤞
We’ve been listening to a pattern … ARE THEY GONNA … in fast speech - wow, natives say it fast! 🚀
Why?
A few ‘grammar’ (non-content) words together are not usually pronounced carefully - the meaning is usually clear from the context
Chances are you do the same in your own language
Agreement of nouns and adjectives in Italian is craaazy 😅 and don’t forget the verb forms 🤪
#englishlearners are so lucky adjectives in English don’t change in most cases, and most nouns just add -s for plural.
