lol 2026 and people are still acting like "996" is a flex and not just shameful & unsustainable practice
2nd is just for the source
Wow whoa
Pope Leo XIVโs Vatican newspaper is the only publication in the Western world to run the photograph of 150 Iranian girls' graves โ killed in President Trump's military strikes โ on its front page.
Ooo putting it on my list! ๐
I know this is like incredibly well-acclaimed but I feel like I'm duty-bound to gush over it if it gets anyone to watch it lol
not even the only person hospitalized *by this movie*
In mid-July 1953, Kurosawa had to go to hospital to recover from the exhaustion of producing the film.
Unsurprising
I was really surprised by the subtlety of it too. I'm really not even coming to it thinking it'd be Jedi-styled and super heavy on the genre (I'd heard about it before a couple of times) -- but it's just *so well done*
maybe it's just my mormon upbringing but i've met multiple of this guy, and i've never seen this sort of portrayal and it's so well done
Kikuchiyo is this tragic "heroic" figure who is also uncomfortable to watch and deeply maladjusted. I don't know that I've ever seen a movie do this. He isn't an anti-hero at all because there is nothing at all charming about him on its face.
You can see it even in just how he moves around!
And even all that aside and all that aside haha: it's an incredibly enjoyable watch. Did it over several sittings but it pulled off its three-and-a-half-hour length.
I don't know if this sounds ironic, but I am 100% serious. Seeing dialogue that is this un-polished & true to life -- with men who are sort of off-their-rocker &/or belittling each other like this, even leaving aside everything else great about the movie, is so wowing
I don't know if its just my translation but I don't think I've ever watched a movie this willing to have dialogue like this. Sincerely amazing at letting an interaction be uncomfortable
The realism of the men's social interactions is shocking. I'm legitimately blown away.
Seven Samurai is incredible. Holy shit.
Wonder if spam accounts for any abberations here but this tracks my sense of it pretty well
Alt: month-ish timeline shows stable like count on bsky. Then zooming out it spikes & mostly tapers with some bumps
Honestly like 5 accounts dominate my tl & they're the best accounts here but like...
Oh!
Oh
Siren song, but beware the algorithm could give you cat videos or brainrot! Or both :)
Hinestly tiktok is so much better than bsky ime but like I said, it's mostly my bad ๐
Like the time I spend on tiktok is fun & sometimes gives me cool leads for movies & books &c. I know it's partially a skill issue but bsky is a blackhole for my time that leaves me shocked that three hours have passed
Making some cool progress on this side project that's been torturing me for months. Gotta block bluesky from my phone haha
Evergreen for almost all subjects. I gotta post about cats more
Obvious reasons -- ofc if people default to following chronological (I do!)
I think bsky is way more sensitive to the timing of posts than other social media, which is unfortunate
Proffs & teachers say the latter is *really* on the rise (test scores seem to day too iirc) & tiktok comments make me think the former too :(
Aside but it's interesting to contrast Online illiteracy (will tie into knots to misread anything to get tasty anger) & typical illiteracy of basically not being able to read a paragraph
