I should have said OUTSIDE the clinic (by lowlife lunatic protestors). Those who work at the clinic are goddamn heroes.

Don’t you love that two of the doc short nominees are on two unimaginably grim American realities? Women who barely have abortion access & get threatened/bullied at the clinic, and massacred school kids who left empty rooms & heartbroken families behind…

Fabulous country. πŸ˜”

Harvey Weinstein: The Rikers Interview In his first major sit-down from behind bars, the disgraced mogul fumes about life at Rikers ("I’m dying here"), his wrecked legacy and his delusions about the future ("I will be proven innocent. That...

If you’re a β€œI can’t stomach a Harvey Weinstein interview” person, you’re correct. If you’re a β€œI’m curious about an interview w/ a former Hollywood mogul/serial rapist now deservedly rotting in prison” person, you’re also correct. I’m the latter. I read it. His delusion is beyond. (Good interview.)

I'm not much of a completionist, but I think I've read every one of hers now? Satisfying as always, with an ear for dialogue and a strong sense of atmosphere. Not my favorite ending - a little too neat - but I assume that's a set-up for the third one in the Cal Hooper series.

Oscar-nominated director Kaouther Ben Hania aims to make history out of feeling helpless In The Voice of Hind Rajab, the Tunisian filmmaker explores the story of a young Palestinian girl whose pleas for help drew global attention

Kaouther Ben Hania received 3 Oscar nominations with her 3 most recent movies. That breaks (somehow unsung) records in The Academy’s spotty history with women directors & Arab cinema. If she wins Sunday, that will mean another first in history. An honor to interview her for @theglobeandmail.com.

Ah but we shouldn’t call them Nazis despite the fact that they routinely use Nazi language.

Also: I’m a Muslim. And an immigrant. I work hard and do all I can to contribute to this country. I 100% belong in American society (even though I don’t always feel included).

I just look forward to hearing all about what opera and/or ballet y’all hit over the weekend.

I don't ever want to hear that it's wrong to call them Nazis again.

Your Spotify wrapped come December better include some Mozart & Puccini is all I’m saying.

Like, if you spent a good chunk of yesterday tweeting about this, but aren’t at all interested in spending a little time this weekend listening to & reading up on, say, Tosca, I’m not sure if I believe in your sincerity. You’re just exploiting a controversy for online engagement.

Encouraging that many showed up in defense of opera, ballet, & I’d like to think, classical music artists too. I do hope (as someone who actually listens to classical music) this controversy increases ticket sales, music downloads & overall curiosity. Otherwise it’s a bit performative for my taste.

The rest of the world has this image of a dumb yet arrogant American. (I know this, because I am an immigrant & I didn’t grow up here.) Sadly, the video White House has posted is living up to that image. It absolutely owns it.

We’re an international laughing stock.

The correct take.

TimothΓ©e's opera and ballet blowback and Jessie Buckley pissing off cat lovers is proof that Oscar season should be at least two weeks shorter.

Also, nowhere in my post did I say that people want him to win only because he is Sean Penn. An exhausting thing about social media is exactly this: people misrepresenting your words and claiming you said something you didn’t say. But thanks for β€œexplaining” what awards are for to me, I guess.

06.03.2026 18:49 πŸ‘ 1 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 1 πŸ“Œ 0

Unknowingly, YES.

06.03.2026 18:34 πŸ‘ 0 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

I love Sean Penn in OBAA, but frankly, I can extremely easily justify giving it to Delroy Lindo, Jacob Elordi (my favorite), Benicio del Toro, and Stellan Skarsgard too. These actors have all delivered memorable performances.

Also, over at Xitter, it’s a BIG day for ppl who’ve been to an opera and/or ballet that one time few years ago to post selfies & words about art forms they know nothing about.

This ain’t a defense of Timmy, although I do think his words are given too much weight & are taken a bit out of context.

06.03.2026 18:27 πŸ‘ 4 πŸ” 0 πŸ’¬ 0 πŸ“Œ 0

If Sean Penn wins an Oscar, it will be proof that he and only he did the right kind of campaigning this year: don’t go anywhere, don’t do anything, don’t talk to anyone, don’t talk about cats, don’t talk about ballet, don’t smile, hide.

Dude’s got experience after all.

To those who are like, β€œWell but this isn’t the first time the US did something like this.” NO SHIT. But does that mean we should shrug it off and normalize it? Your β€œwell actually” apathy pretending to be concern is my enemy.
