And now, everything sounds unbalancedโeven professionally mixed music. ๐คท Time to treat my other ear too?
My ear is back in business. I had some serious stacks of wax in there, but finally got it all outโno trip to the doctor's necessary. Now, I hear แดแด แดสสแดสษชษดษข.๐
Only a month left now to my last release. Currently, I have reduced hearing in one ear, which is not ideal. I'm probably going to have to go and have it checked. Good news is that all details are done, so I could release as is, even if I won't be doing any tweaking in a while.
Yesterday, I finally replaced the flattened headband padding for my favourite headphones. I bought the replacement padding a couple of years ago, but it seemed like too much of a hassle at the time to install it. Turned out to be super-easy, thoughโฆ ๐
One can't do curved tempo automation in Reason โ or you sorta can if you create the curve in some other automation lane, move the clip to the tempo automation lane, and then "adjust alien". I thought I had it fooled for a moment, but then Reason crashedโฆ Sรคg den lycka som varar fรถr evigtโฆ

I think the decision to switch to something that better meets my updated needs has been made for me now.
Later, they got bought out by some venture capitalists and changed their name to Reason Studios. "Software as a subscription" was introed. And now, LANDR acquired them, further distancing the product from its users. I don't know if any of the original visionaries are still left or if they even care.
I've been loyal to Reason since 1.0 when I first read about it in my dad's tech mag around 2000: a young start-up, Propellerhead, were emulating electronic circuits digitally in order to mimic the sounds of vintage synthesizers. They felt like "one of us", electronic music enthusiasts with a vision.
I'm guessing this will mean even less focus on improving Reason's sequencer and also sooner or later wanting to force their AI tools down my throat as everyone else these days. ๐
Damn it, just got an e-mail about LANDR acquiring "Reason Studios" (the makers of the DAW I'm currently using). Long gone are the Propellerhead days. ๐ซค

One thing I've learned during 2025 is that I can be mistaken for a sheep farmer.
For 2026, on a personal scale, I predict 3 things:
1) I will delete all past releases, which were "technically interesting",
2) I will leave the internet and, as a result, will either loose all my followers or double them,
3) I won't release my best work ever into the void.
This new track of mine was meant for one of my upcoming spring releases, but got scrapped, because it didn't have a fitting vibe. Then, it sat in my archives for a while until now when I accidentally listened to an old album release instead of current WIP and realised this is where it belongs.
New track, "I make myself ugly for you", added to old album release: maskinkultur.bandcamp.com/track/i-make...

Exactly this...
Finally watched "Everything Everywhere All at Once" and crazy amazing it was. It gave me the same feelingโof having watched something quite extraordinaryโas when I watched "The Matrix" for the very first time. Two very different movies, but with similar wow-factor.
I recently switched to GIMP 3.0 and the new non-destructive editing is really nice.
I feel like someone somewhere ought to have already done thisโand dismissed itโฝ Could be that it's an entirely unnecessary exercise or even that it would sound like crapโto the _human_ ear. Could also be that dividing by powers of two just happens to be the most convenientโฆ
Lately, I've been thinking about some _truly_ odd time signatures like 4/3, 3/5, or whatever. I mean, theoretically, one could construct a system where the whole note is divided by powers of 3 instead of powers of 2, giving us third notes, 9th notes, 27th notes, and so onโฆ
I do get out, but I doubt long quiet walks, during which my mind is doing all the talking, counts as mingling. I've always been like thatโwithdrawn and absorbed in some unshared inner lifeโas far back as I can remember.
I tell myself I will get out more, celebrate, invite people over, reconnect, etcโฆ once whatever I'm busy with is done and out, but when the time comes, I don't.
Self-isolation: great for my music, not so great for anything social. Mingling and all that is supposedly good for my career, but not necessarily for my art. A dilemma worth contemplating.
I once calculated that one track, on average, takes me three weeks to finish (starting from scratch). Those three weeks are spread out over several months upto however long it takes to finish all tracks, since I work on them all in parallel.
If I ever worry about any of my stuff being too wild, I can just listen to Michael Gordon's "Acid Rain"โฆ
