You may not be looking for solutions (because writing and rewriting is hard and doing it is the best way to get better) but I highly recommend 'How to Fix Your Academic Writing Trouble: A Practical Guide' (2019, McGraw Hill) by @thesiswhisperer.bsky.social and colleagues. It's the best!
This is an 'the adhd procrastination paid off' moment for me - indecision about submitting means no submissions. Q: Is it easier to say goodbye to the $5k from NZ, or at the US border, coz those might end up being your options.
It is particularly evident in those students who have 'yearned to study under [my] supervision at [my] esteemed institution', while pitching projects entirely unrelated to anything I've done or the oh so inspiring open access paper from 8 years ago... Not sure if template or AI, neither good.
The US is not a safe place to conduct sporting events, host academic conferences or conduct business. Those who decide such things have an obligation to act in the safety of their members.
