Delightful. And the "Waylon Jennings' Gonads People" dig is just perfection for all the obvs reasons.

Oh, be sure to check out Adam Mac's "Southern Spectacle" album from last year, too!
Anyway. My favorite Kennerly track is this version of "Cry Myself to Sleep" Wynonna and Trisha Yearwood sang the everliving fuck out of on the Judds tribute album a couple of years ago: www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3IN...
His follow-up concept album about Jesse James still isn't one I'd canonize, but it's the far better and far less problematic effort of the two.
Even the "White Mansions" songs that aren't sympathetic to the narrator are still centering those narrators in a historical narrative in a particular way.
But I'm also not inclined to answer that question about the album's concept-- white British dude writing an album of songs about the US Civil War almost entirely from the POV of white southerners-- with a "yes."
Somebody should've popped that balloon before he ever took it outside.
In his defense, Kennerley's songs that were cut by other artists are generally *great*.
That album? The thing with any concept album is that someone should start by asking, "Is this concept... y'know... *good*?" Lots of talented folks involved, but it's never been one I could get behind.
iβm excited to announce iβll be headed to red rocks for a one night only performance with the colorado symphony on july 19 πβ¨ couldnβt be happier to have the highwomen and the lovely brittney spencer a part of this this special night with me π€

Agreed. Similar to Sugar Hill's promotion of Nickel Creek.
Correct. Lynn's never even released a "proper" single to country radio, so she hasn't charted on that format. Such a well-deserved HoF member, too.
Most people don't understand the job of a critic is to make sure a manufactured narrative is not the only one at play, and that you deserve to know the difference between art made with love and sincerity and cynical garbage.
"Let people enjoy things" how about don't passively engage in art
February's Best Country roundup has everything from old-time string band music to cosmic Americana. Dive in!
Scream 7 apologists who clearly can't read catch blocks 'round here first thing in the morning.
TOT reader Wilson Reagan graciously shared this photo of a young George Strait. It appears that it was taken when he was still a student at Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos or perhaps shortly after. He would go to have 60 #1 hits. I have never seen this before. Mind. Blown.
cannot stress enough that "separate the art from the artist" was meant for private individuals reconciling the art they love with its flawed creators and not meant for the ceo of a company driving a dump truck of money up to a bigot's front porch

In our live-review column The Spin, Gay Ole Opry Nashvilleβs showcase at The Basement welcomed LGBTQ country musicians and fans with performances from Lizzie No and lots more.
Agreed: The album was never actually released.
Lots of folks (correctly!) celebrating Neko's "Fox Confessor Brings The Flood" on the 20th anniversary of its release. In hindsight, I stand behind my initial take that it's Neko's version of a knotty, Gothic Bobbie Gentry record. It's one for the canon: www.slantmagazine.com/music/neko-c...
If I had a nickel for every time Franz Ferdinand was involved in the precursor events of a world war, Iβd have two nickels, which isnβt a lot, but itβs weird it happened twice
Trisha and Carter were our "consensus" picks for our Album Of The Year for 2025. If we'd done a full ranked list, Tony here would've been at #3. I love this album so, so much.
Fox Confessor Brings The Flood came out 20 years ago and it still sounds brand fucking new. One of those records everyone wishes they could make.

Positive this is the first time I've ever been mentioned with David Lynch, and I'm so here for it.
The nuclear block is good, actually. Itβs why Bluesky is my favorite modern social site, much more so than even Twitter at its best.
Congrats, Scream 7!
Your 73% second week drop-off puts you in the company of such horror franchise stalwarts as Jason Goes To Hell: The Final Friday (-71%), the already-streaming at the time Halloween Kills (-70.8%), and 2013's Texas Chainsaw (-75.8%).
Spectacular work, all.
Would personally relegate that Sugarland single to The Hague, both on its own merits and because its release took out their lovely "Life in a Northern Town" cover with Little Big Town and Jake Owen at the knees at radio.
But at least it didn't have the reggae breakdown of their "Stuck Like Glue."
International Women's Day, "Disrupt the CMAs" celebration post.
Ten years on, and the country genre continues to lose both moral and quality-control ground to these women: www.youtube.com/watch?v=85Ks...
Rewatch was inspired by some of the initial "inside job" conspiracy theories related to the Nancy Guthrie case, which had some similarities.
McDormand's never been better than in the lunch with Mike Y scene. Such a spectacularly controlled performance.
Rewatched FARGO for the first time in several years just two weeks back. Coens have a crowded top tier, but hard to fathom that this doesn't rate among their finest. I love how *credible* both the motivations and the mistakes in the kidnapping plot are; they don't scan as contrivances.
