A male mallard duck with grey and brown body, dark green head, white neck ring, and yellow bill has its wings straight up, partially obscuring his bright green head, as it lands behind a softly out of focus ridge of white snow that is artfully obscuring the bottom portion of the image.
I kinda like this shot of a Mallard drake touching down on a frozen pond behind an out of focus snow-covered ridge in the foreground.

The long shadow by Christopher Harrison
Brightwell Barrow, Oxfordshire, England
I captured these one year ago today on the 1st March 2025. One of my most memorable mornings out in nature, where the conditions and light combined into the most spectacular photographs. It still feels like yesterday.

How far back in time can you understand English?
An experiment in language change
"As his post goes on, his language gets older. 100 years older with each jump. The spelling changes. The grammar changes. Words you know are replaced by unfamiliar words" Fascinating. So how far back in time can YOU go?

The little spalted tamarind bowl I finished earlier. I wanted to make something that felt good to hold, and the shape of this is definitely very tactile. Needed to stabilise some slightly punky parts of the blank, but Iβm pretty pleased with it. #woodturning #woodworking #woodsky #turning

Dumgoyne in low light, edited in mono as I thought it would create a compelling image and my choice was confirmed when the British Photographers Alliance awarded the image Gold standard on 5/2/26
I'm absolutely delighted to reveal my 10th overall Gold award image that was issued yesterday by the British Photographers Alliance. I'm particularly pleased with this as it is my first ever mono edited Gold image. Dumgoyne in low light

A black and white photograph of a dahlia flower. The right petals can be seen clustering around the centre of the flower. In the background you can see stems of flowers yet to bloom.
Digging through the archives. A glorious dahlia shot in the summer. I can almost feel the warmth of the sun. The bulbs are shooting up now - spring is around the corner.

A redpoll, a small fluffy songbird with beige tones, yellow-orange bill and a red forehead, perches on a willow branch caked in winter frost.
My first #BirdOfTheDay entry, for todayβs theme of #ShortBeaks: this redpoll, sporting a short-but-mighty beak. I never hesitate to dole out props for these tough little birds, who come to Manitoba to spend the winter. #birds

A photograph of a kite flying low to the ground. The kite is blue, white and black. The sky is clear and blue. The ground is short grass covered in a thin layer of snow.
Went kite flying at the weekend. Nearly stayed home because it was -4 C outside.
The wind was perfect, the view went on forever and I came home lighter than I went out.
Thereβs no moral to this story, just go and fly a kite. Youβll thank me later.π

A Great Horned Owl sitting in the snow, surrounded by tall blades of dry grass. While it can't be seen, there is a muskrat trapped below the owl who had just grabbed it from a nearby hole in the river ice.
I'm going to give this Great Horned Owl the benefit of the doubt and say that he was sitting on a muskrat in an effort to keep it warm. I'm probably being a bit more generous than he deserves. #wildlife #birds #owls
