Madman theory, illustrated with thanks to:
@rowecartoon.bsky.social

“Trump told Fox News Radio that he didn’t think the war “would be long.” But he suggested that only he will know when it will be over, saying the conflict will end “when I feel it, feel it in my bones.”

Further to Laura Tingle's forecast/prediction about Trump's March 31 deadline for sucess...

And thus we ask: who is writing this script where a madman starts a war with Iran, unleashes global economic chaos and expects to end it within a month... by April Fool's Day?

The US is no longer directing the war against Iran If there ever was a strategy behind Donald Trump's decision to blow up the Middle East, it is lying in tatters as the second week of the Iran war draws to a close.

As global economic chaos spreads, Laura Tingle on the Trump/Iran/Xi nexus:
“The US president is scheduled to fly to meet with… Xi Jinping on March 31 and it seems highly unlikely that he will want to head there without some story of great military success” www.abc.net.au/news/2026-03...

China’s ban on fuel exports is deeply worrying for Australian air travellers A shortage in aviation fuel could lead to increased airfares, fuel surcharges, flight reductions and even flight rationing.

I was today years old when I learned "In 2025 Australia imported about 32% of its jet fuel from China" and "As of mid-March 2026, the Department of Industry, Science and Resources confirmed Australia has approximately 29 to 32 days of jet fuel in reserve." theconversation.com/chinas-ban-o...

Exclusive | Hong Kong job openings hit 6-year low in 69% of sectors amid AI’s ascent Vacancies in 23 out of 33 job sectors, including IT and customer service, fell to their lowest number in six years.

“Hong Kong’s fresh graduates are facing increasingly challenging career prospects, with 69% of job sectors recording their fewest vacancies in six years…”

We *do* remember what was happening this month in 2020, right?

Will we see/hear any ideas, hope, leadership?

Robot ‘arrested’ after elderly woman startled and sent to hospital in Macau Video of incident shows woman angrily confronting robot before police arrive and escort it away.

We might not remember this in years to come… but I bet the robots will.
“Video circulating online shows the woman angrily confronting the robot before two officers arrive.”

Did the police check with Asimov’s Laws for ‘startling’… I wonder.

In a new age of disorder, is it time for China to rethink non-intervention? With the Iran crisis, the world is in a ‘jungle phase’ and Beijing should work on interventionism 2.0, government adviser says.

Canada: this is the age of disruption of the global order
China: "All orders are established only after humanity suffers unbearable disasters and losses. Therefore, we must be fully prepared mentally for the long‑term nature of establishing a new order.”

Iran’s Control of Hormuz Means It’s Exporting More Oil Today Than Before the War Tehran is letting ships carrying its crude pass through the strait, while it scares off others that would dare.

Iran is exporting more oil through the Strait of Hormuz than before the war, showing it is in control of a strategic waterway that it has closed off to the rest of the region’s oil producers.

So the inquiry seems to have found that the Girls School in Iran was previously part of the IRGC compound, and US intelligence thought it still was.
Looking at freely available satellite images, you can see that there's been a wall separating the school from the IRGC base since at least 2016.

The 2026 #IWD motto was "give to gain".

Minnie Chan is a Hong Kong-based reporter for SCMP who attended a conference in Beijing in November, 2023 and has not been seen or heard from since.

Perhaps if #journalists give attention to Minnie Chan her family might gain her return.

Hope persists.
