the country is at war and the president is leaving DC this afternoon for a weekend at his private club in Florida that he'll spend with his paying customers
Oh, honey . . . just because you played dress-up at a fake "military academy" that your parents sent you to because you were such an unmanageable, obnoxious teenager doesn't mean you were in the miliary. You had that duty, but lied to get out of it.
Murphy: I have great sympathy for our soldiers and our military leaders they are being given directions by a senile old man who is losing his mind. And so it's no surprise that this war is going horribly
JUST IN: Judge Shah in Illinois has blocked the Trump admin from yanking $600m in public health funds from four blue states, saying it appeared to be a βcontrivedβ and illegal effort to punish them for sanctuary immigration policies storage.courtlistener.com/recap/gov.us...
Hey, journalists (and journalism students):
This piece from CJR about uses of AI in the newsroom is well worth considering.

Just imagine if a woman cabinet secretary banned news photographers because their photos weren't flattering?

False narrative: the woman who said Trump sexually assaulted her as a minor refused to cooperate.
Reality: FBI failed her. She asked: whatβs the point if nothing can be done? FBI didnβt dispute that.
When victims think nothing can be done, our justice system is failing them.
There are more instances of United States Citizens being detained by ICE than there are of illegal immigrants voting in elections.
That deadly attack on US service members also left "dozens w/ injuries including brain trauma, shrapnel wounds and burns. At least one may require the amputation of a limb."
More than 30 are hospitalized.
And credit where due: This is a strong story from CBS News.

Why don't conservatives show any interest in tackling the DEMAND side of the drug trade?

Thereβs also often a devilβs bargain buried in all this, that you flatter and, yeah, respect these white people who think this country is theirs by throwing other people under the busβby disrespecting immigrants and queer people and feminists and their rights and views. And you reinforce that constituencyβs sense that they matter more than other people when you pander like this, and pretty much all the problems weβve faced over the past four years, to say nothing of the last five hundred, come from this sense of white people being more important than nonwhites, Christians than non-Christians, native-born than immigrant, male than female, straight than queer, cis-gender than trans. Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito just complained that βyou canβt say that marriage is a union between one man and one woman. Now itβs considered bigotry.β This is a standard complaint of the right: the real victim is the racist who has been called a racist, not the victim of his racism, the real oppression is to be impeded in your freedom to oppress. And of course Alito is disingenuous; you can say that stuff against marriage equality (and he did). Then other people can call you a bigot, because they get to have opinions too, but in his scheme such dissent is intolerable, which is fun coming from a member of the party whose devotees wore βfuck your feelingsβ shirts at its rallies and popularized the term βsnowflake.β
When you call misogyny misogyny, you're allying with the victims of it and maybe rendering the misogynists uncomfortable, and you're also telling the truth. Whose comfort matters? Matters more than truth? The Times and a lot of the mainstream has been telling us conservative white men come first.
Get me rewrite!
Does Orban's Hungary really belong in NATO?
DOJ is now just another political lackey for the president, with no respect for the rule of law. We will have a lot of work to do to restore its independence.

Remember the mass firings at Voice of America? They were ordered by a Trump loyalist who was never properly appointed.

βTactical absurdity:β The costumed activists showing up to protest Trump and ICE say thereβs a method to their madness.

Has anyone pointed out to ICE agents that if they're arresting people solely to collect a bonus, they're not law enforcement officers. They're bounty hunters.
I look forward to all of them losing their jobs and being blacklisted from serving in law enforcement.
The Coast Guardβs new facility is in Birmingham, Alabama, which isnβt on the water. A parting gift from outgoing DHS Secy Kristi Noem:

Thought I would have gotten used to it by now, but Iβm still grappling with the realization of just how stupid the men running this country are.
"Will Democrats make the obnoxious and unlikable Stephen Miller a key target in their midterms messaging? Will they run against Millerβs extremism and in solidarity with the vital contributions of immigrants?"
Strongly agree with @markjacob.bsky.social here:

You MUST listen to this episode of "This American Life." It takes listeners deep inside the way ICE and their enablers at DOJ actually do their work.
(And a salute to those federal judges who are trying to uphold the rule of law!)

Who the hell is making our foreign policy???
Yes, those federal judges did indeed infringe on his power -- as well they should have!

The Department of Justice has sued 30 states and DC for access to their unreacted sensitive voter data. My law firm is fighting them in all 30 cases.
We are dedicating so many resources because these are the most important legal fights and the future of free and fair elections is at stake.
And this is all he had to replace Noem.
