Damn, and I only threw out my metal horn cases last week. Got them from IKEA on a mad impulse.

All you need to do is to be able to tell them where all that money came from. That shouldn't be hard, should it? Should it?

I just misread "association football" as "assassination football" and now I'm interested in sports again.

I would hope it would also have Moomins.

AndrΓ© Franquin's work is already represented by Marsupilami, and I guess two strips from the same author would have put a strain on the need to retain a strict balance between French and Flemish speaking cartoonists (because Belgium).

Trying to come up with a good SM for Adrian Chiles. "The frequently bewildered scribe", maybe?

New design of the Belgian passport
New design of the Belgian passport YouTube video by Ministry of Foreign Affairs Belgium

The latest Belgian passport is entirely comic book-themed - it's really lovely. No reason at all why the UK couldn't do the same with, say, characters from children's television other than a lack of cultural self-confidence and an obsession with past heroes. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xiex...

Nigel Farage: Of course banknotes should carry portraits of historical figures!
The European Central Bank: Okay, then the next series of Euro notes will carry portraits of key figures in the postwar European movement. Shall we start with Churchill and De Gaulle?
Farage: (explodes)

Even with crude oil at an inflation-adjusted cost of Β£13/barrel back then I'm pretty sure the extra cost would have been substantial. On the other hand, Goldfinger had Oddjob to "negotiate" on his behalf.

Curious how he's complaining loudly about Churchill but not about Jane Austen or Alan Turing. It's almost as if...

Kim Jong-un, dressed in a leather jacket,, takes aim and fires a pistol, presumably at an unseen enemy of the Juche idea.

North Korea's first gritty crime-fighting drama starring a father and daughter detective team was not given very much flexibility when it came to casting the lead roles.

If I'd known about Astro's Playroom being preinstalled on every console I'd have bought a #PS5 half a decade ago. What an absolutely joyful gaming experience. (Yes, I know it also acts as a gateway drug to Astro Bot)

I fear they're plugged into online support networks of likeminded lunatics who help them rationalise it in terms of "it wouldn't have made any difference anyway". If you genuinely believe it doesn't work and your social media is dominated by your fellow travellers telling you that...

More reliable universal trolley problem solution: Switch the points after the first set of wheels has passed over but before the second pair. It'll probably still derail but it'll certainly stop. Derailment is less likely if it has bogies rather than fixed wheelsets.

Universal trolley problem solution: Pull the lever but only far enough to move the points to the centre. Derail the tram as one wheel goes in one direction and the other goes in the other.

The handful of fatalities so far during Operation Epic Shitfuckery are obviously sad, but remember that "injuries" covers anything from a squished thumb to being left with no legs, 90% burns and one functioning eye. Plenty of people will return with life-changing injuries, but they get no attention.

Following on from yesterday's military euphemism, I have now found that at a "dignified transfer" (the unloading of dead soldiers) the "transfer case" (coffin) is loaded into a "transfer vehicle" (hearse). Presumably from here it goes to the "chill-out room" (mortuary).

Whereas as a transport nerd my usual response is to point out that in the real world sufficient value is placed on human life that such a scenario would never arise thanks to 150+ years of lessons learned from fatal accidents being folded back into a robust safety regime. Yes, I am fun at parties.

Both the UK and Austria are warning against travel to Israel, Qatar, the UAE and Kuwait. Dubai and Doha may be trying to project a β€œbusiness as usual” image but anyone who chooses to travel there despite the warnings is likely to find their travel insurance will not cover them if anything happens.

According to ORF over 300 people have been arrested in Qatar on suspicion of "publishing misleading information and rumours", which translates as "This war was a great excuse to round up the usual suspects without attracting too much damaging PR".

You'd have thought that by 2026 we'd be working out that the killing and orphaning of hundreds of thousands of children for no reason other than the servicing of the egos of a few fragile men is a crime against humanity and those who perpetrate such crimes should face justice. But apparently not.

Diesel seems to have gone up by about €0.30/litre in the past week thanks to the need to distract further from the Epstein files. I'm guessing the US is seeing similar increases, which is odd as I thought gasoline was supposed to be $1.50/gallon by now?

That 80s "Just Say No" anti-drug campaign would have had more success had it used Lemmy's version of the slogan (he took everything else but hated heroin with a passion) - "Don’t β€˜just say no,’ kick his fucking teeth in. He wants to fuck up your life and probably everyone else you know’s life too."
