Grey Shoulder-knot, first of the year. Was new for the garden in 2025. Mostly grey, mottled moth, with two "knot-like" black markings where its "shoulders" would be

Lots of singing male Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) out on the fens the other day. They're a common wetland bird known for the male’s smart ecclesiastical appearance with his black hood and white collar. They feed on seeds in the winter and move up to insects in the summer #UKBirding

I seem to be in a triangle between the Criminology Institute, the government's digital corridor and The Archers Listening post...

...none of which I am actually associated with or have any interest in

But, that spot *is* half-way between chemistry and life sciences...which possibly makes sense

Actually...more properly, D. fagella is known as the Early Reveller!

The scaup disappeared a few days ago, but returned yesterday. It's likely to become more mobile in the coming days, I suspect

Gorgeous birds and so much more beautiful than their captive bred versions. Such plaintive songs

How many is several? – David Bradley's Sciencebase

Headlines screaming "several warplanes crashed" but how many is several? Personally, I don't think of 3 as being several, there were actually 3. Several is a few more, isn't it? 5, 6, 7 or 8?

There was definitely spawn last week. We usually see it one the last week of a February my friends croak rather than ribbit, they're English
