Reed Bunting singing from his vantage point on the reeds at the Earith end of RSPB Ouse Fen, 2026-03-05 Snapped with a Canon R7 mirrorless digital camera at 500mm full zoom
Lots of singing male Reed Bunting (Emberiza schoeniclus) out on the fens the other day. They're a common wetland bird known for the maleβs smart ecclesiastical appearance with his black hood and white collar. They feed on seeds in the winter and move up to insects in the summer #UKBirding

Looks like the work to deal with the flooding at our local RSPB carpark has started...

I seem to be in a triangle between the Criminology Institute, the government's digital corridor and The Archers Listening post...
...none of which I am actually associated with or have any interest in
But, that spot *is* half-way between chemistry and life sciences...which possibly makes sense
Actually...more properly, D. fagella is known as the Early Reveller!

I got back from the pub, but the frogs were not showing...will have another look this evening
The scaup disappeared a few days ago, but returned yesterday. It's likely to become more mobile in the coming days, I suspect
Gorgeous birds and so much more beautiful than their captive bred versions. Such plaintive songs
Canary
Here's an Atlantic Canary to be going on with, snapped a few days before my 60th birthday
I will photograph my frogs when I get home from the pub and share...
Is this an evidence bag?
I never understood ribbit...
Hah, well a moment was defined as that but it's all relative
Headlines screaming "several warplanes crashed" but how many is several? Personally, I don't think of 3 as being several, there were actually 3. Several is a few more, isn't it? 5, 6, 7 or 8?

There was definitely spawn last week. We usually see it one the last week of a February my friends croak rather than ribbit, they're English
Female Marsh Harrier, Circus aeruginosus, in flight, wings spread against a blue sky
Marsh Harrier over NT Wicken Fen (Adventurer's Fen) a few days ago almost looked metallic in the winter low #UKBirding
Hahah, I need to correct my records. I heard frogs croaking on Monday, first spawn was there Wednesday, so 1st March Eve Eve Eve Eve
Hah, no I took the photo on 28th when spawning started in our pond ;-)
Frogs are great, aren't they?
Can't find the original PondDip #spawnsurvey account so have logged my sighting with freshwaterhabitats.org.uk/waternet/spa...
