Woke up at 6 after sleeping maybe five hours, and shortly thereafter jumped forward in time, so I have given up on getting any more rest this morning. At some point I will get coffee. In the meantime, looking out the window here in Gallup, New Mexico.
Just passed through the abandoned mining town of Saltus, California. (That’s not a fact I knew. I looked it up.) Slept terribly last night, so I might try to go to sleep now. Very excited for coffee tomorrow morning.
I’m watching Ladies of London while a group of Amish people congregate outside my window here in Barstow. The train is such a fascinating cultural experience.

Well we turned, and now the sunset is behind me, so that’s probably as good as it’s gonna get until (hopefully) tomorrow. Just got to San Bernardino, and I will be putting on my pajamas and getting cozy soon.

For some reason, an inordinate number of Oscar nominees this year seem to be about the enormous difficulty of believing in a better world for your children's sake, while preparing them for the one they actually live in. Not sure why that theme would appeal right now.
I am not good with children but when a small child smiles at you unprompted? Best feeling in the world.

Another advantage LA has over New York is that I saw Dylan O’Brien at dinner.
Trump says this stuff because he is very, very stupid and no one in his circle has corrected him in years, but I’m sure he does also still think he can cancel elections and therefore nothing he says really matters.
“Only fools care about skyrocketing gas prices while we bomb a country into oblivion” is quite a statement to make at any point, let alone an election year. And yes, the mass slaughter of innocents should be enough to turn off voters, but most of them do seem more motivated by gas prices.
