Seymour's misogyny, & visible contempt for disinformation research(ers) - mirroring context under Trump regime in the US - signals that examining information manipulation threatens certain political narratives - a dangerous precedent for democratic accountability in Aotearoa.

Seymour characterises disinfo research as "a bit of a joke" that "cost taxpayer money". T/his dismissive language provided permission for commenters to escalate attacks. This is how grounded, institutional knowledge gets delegitimised, & women (academics) get silenced.

Stan Walker was performing Māori Ki te Ao when he brought performers holding ‘Toitū te Tiriti’ flags and banners on stage. Bishop told Stuff that he was referring to the “overtly political branding on display.”

Imagine being a music fan but not wanting to see politics as part of it. Just means you're a sad racist.

Anyway, Don McGlashan has righfully got a lot of praise, but a big shout out to Stan Walker for making Bishop uncomfortable in the first place.
